Sounds like it's got a rev limiter. You can try searching for the make and model and see if you come up with any info about a limited CDI. Some will have a looped wire on the CDI that can be cut to remove the limiter. Some need it replaced.

It just started doing this. It will bog down if tire is on the ground and will die I I go full throttle. Scooter goes walking speed almost too slow to where I can't keep it up without my feet on the ground. This is my linhai 1e40fm engine. I just put a new cylinder hone in and it has not ran right since. I tried putting the old hone back on and it does the same thing.

I assume you replaced the piston? If so, are you sure you have it on the right way with the arrow facing the exhaust?

Yes it is facing towards the exhaust..scared me for a sec I had to go check it. Checked my spark and it looks like oil is on it..maybe extra 2 stroke oil from lubricating piston before install. Still stumped as to what might be the cause. Does it sound like it is not getting enough fuel? I wil try to get another vid up.

If it's a lot of oil it usually just acts sluggish and smokes heavy for a minute. You can try choking it partially with your hand over the inlet of the carb to see if it improves, if so it's too lean.

That still didn't work I usually have to start it like that(hand over carb). I'm still stumped I'm starting to lean towards fuel being the issue. It drives and sounds like it's not getting enough. I've played with the fuel/air screw but still nothing I'll try to get a driving view and bring my cam with me on a ride maybe that will help explain what's going on. As always vert I appreciate your help. You seem to be the most active and helpful forum member I have ever met on any forum.

Glad to try to help, wish I had the right answer right now. It sounds heavy and rich when it's idling and you're just getting on the throttle. I've had them sputter at WOT from being rich plenty, but not like that. Never had one do anything like that while lean for me either. Maybe the ride video will tell us more? If you have another plug around you could try warming it up on the old plug, then switch to a new one. Start it and hold it WOT briefly and then see how the plug looks. Other thoughts are clean the carb, check the reeds, check for air leaks, check all connections in the ignition system.

Waiting for the rain to go away and I'll post vid. I cleaned the carb a little bit ago but have not tried to swap it out. I'll try that too

Could an issue with the CVT cause an issue similar to this? I had a rhythmic miss like that as well on a scooter but only under load and it ended up being something in the clutch assembly (I had a spare and simply replaced the unit). It also kept it out from "getting on the pipe" as it normally did.

when i forgot the washer that sits on the end of the boss on the kick end of the crankshaft I got a mean wobble in the variator as the belt was preventing the two halves from coming together true. worth a look if you have a wobble somewhere

my jog does same thing. particularly when i reach about 60kph in which it go any faster and do that rev limiting sputter. i replaced the spark plug and it still does it. i'm suspecting the ignition coil or the cdi.
