I pulled the butterfly and it's shaft out of the carb. The butterfly is 1mm thick and I tapered the leading edge of it to .4mm to make it less of a wall.
The shaft is 3.9mm total. The butterfly is 1mm, leaving 2.9mm of shaft material, or 1.45mm per side. I don't feel safe removing much from that in the center.
I ground and tapered the butterfly shaft to aid airflow a little. I ended up going from 3.9mm thick (center) to 3.6mm thick. The edges would be much smaller though since they taper in.
Here's a pic to show the difference in tapered and stock. Pics don't show these tiny changes really well, but there is definitely a difference.
I finished both sides and then put the butterfly screws in so I could work on them a little. I might file it just a shade more once I install the butterfly and shaft in the carb, but I don't wanna risk messing up the head of the screw and not being able to get it back together. I'll be using permanent loctite on reassembly. I really shouldn't have a reason to pull the butterfly back out and I don't need a small screw getting sucked in if it happened to come loose. This pic shows stock vs ground screws.
