hello all. I just received my TAO TAO in the mail. I am having trouble after I put the acid in the battery, I do not have a charger, where can I purchase one. I am new to mopeds/bikes so I do not know to much. IS there any other INFO/ Advice yall can give me for the moped before I start riding? I know that the VALVE stem for the bike is very weak i will get them replaced from my local tire shop. SHOULD i not even run the moped on the oil that came with the bike?

I believe I answered at least part of this question either via YouTube yesterday if this is the same person? Follow what's in the PDI series of videos and that covers most of it. You cna find a thread HERE that gives some additional help. The Battery Tender Jr (12V) is a good unit IMO and you can find it at local auto parts stores and even Wal-Mart I believe. Harbor Freight sells a cheap float charger as well. I prefer not to run the engine at all on the oil that comes with it.

Thank you, i purchased a charger and charged the battery. My moped had started for a minute then the horn and electric system worked. After the minute, it just shut off. I tried again and the electric would not work, alothough this is the brand new battery and when i put it on the charger its fully charged. What could be the problem? As i watched your part 11 video and i know i am setting it up correctly

Is it possible you may have a defective battery? Have anywhere to take battery for testing? Autozone etc? Then troubleshoot from there.

sounds like the main fuse is blown yes, but the thing is the lights wont even turn on the battery seems to be rendered useless, but on the battery tender junior its green. nothing. no horn no start no lights. i cant seem to find out whats wrong aall the wires i double checked they are plugged in. its a brand new moped -.- So because its a 'brand new scooter' it should work, with no automotive experience on your part. Thats like saying damn this brand new airplane, it crashed when i jumped in and tried to fly it. I dont mean to offend anyone with this next comment but..WHAT makes anyone with no automotive experience whatsoever think they can purchase bikes in the crate and make them work? Its funny to me how you say 'this is a brand new moped'. Yes and an experienced mechanic could make this brand new machine go down the road. Putting a scalpel in your hand doesnt make you a surgeon you know? Crated bikes like this should not be sold to the public...you are perfect example of how its not as 'simple' as you think it is. It takes YEARS of experience with these bikes to make them work out of the crate they come with all kinds of issues, and it takes a good deal of experience as an automotive mechanic to even make an attempt. I have done a couple hundred over the past 4 years and have pretty much seen it all. I have had ones come with screws ran into the wiring harness, all sorts of crazy wiring mistakes that nobody but a mechanic with YEARS of experience would EVER figure out, bad welds that broke, and shit loads of missing and defective parts. Crated chinese scooters are not for the novice. What makes people think this is so simple? Is it because the websites make it look so easy? Is it the perception that 'its just a scooter' mean anyone who can hold a wrench can make it go from the crate to being a road worthy machine in 30 mins? i just dont get the thinking in this...

If automotive service and repair was so simple, mechanics would not have jobs. The occupation exists for a reason. I know we are hated but its not so easy to get around us is it?

I agree. I am not trying to "get around" anyone. I am trying to look for help. I called the local mechanic shops and none of them experience with mopeds, and they won't work on it. I have to go into BOSTON two hours away from where I live. I came onto this board to seek help. I do have automotive experience with cars, yet these are a little different. I was assuming I had the mental compacity to have this vehicle out of the crate and drive away with it after a few changes. nonetheless, I am currently trying to figuire t out and look online as well. The 90gtvert videos were a great help, although my particular moped is giving me more issues then i would have liked. I bought another battery and it still did not start up or light up, I am wondering if the stater is good or not. I am trying to see if its the fuse, if so, would anyone know where to purchase the specific fuse?

I'm pretty sure mine came with a spare fuse in the fuse holder that is in the battery box under the floor. That would be my first place to look. If your battery tender is lighting green, I think the battery is good. Check the fuse then pull the seat bucket and look for loose wires under there. Next pull off the front panel and check the connections under there. A meter would be of great help with this as well. Harbor Freight has them really cheap and free if you can find a coupon in a magazine somewhere.
There are some wiring diagrams on this forum that should help out too.
Best of luck.
