Hi I started up the scooter tonight and was messing with another scooter while my newer scooter was warming up. All of a sudden I smelled the strong odor of gas. I noticed the scooter that I was letting warm up was pouring gas out the side of the carb. The scooter died and would not start. I took the carb off and checked the shutoff needle. It seemed fine. I sprayed carb cleaner in the hole to make sure nothing was stuck in the hole that the needle sits in. I reassembled the carb and put it back on and it starts for a second and starts pouring gas out again.
I think it might be the petcock. I unhooked the line from the vacuum and the one from the gas fiilter. i can vacuum to the vacuum line and the gas will pour out very fast, and when I remove the vacuum the gas will trickle out for awhile before finally stopping. Does this mean the petcock is bad? and the trickling gas is overflowing the carb. or is the carb bad?
I can't seem to wrap my thoughts around this.
any and all feedback will be great. \

The shut off drain valve is the screw pointed by the Arrow in the picture i posted. Screw it and its closed.
You got a picture of the needle you found on the floor?

I just went back down in the basement and checked the carb. it has no cut off screw. so I looked at the bottom of the drain hose.......duh it has a place for the screw.. I guess the young man drained the carb when he wasn't using it. which was a great idea....now I know why my gas mileage sucked.... thanks for the idea on what to check..
