I put in Royal Purple 10w-40 oil...My scooter is 2 years old. It's got 2850 miles on it...How long does a petcock fuel valve last? Anywhere from 5 minutes to 5 years.

Also stay away from sintered bronze fuel filters , the ethonal in our gas is killing/ clogging them quickly

are you pumping the piss out of the throttle over and over and over and over ?? if so you are flooding it OR it has low compression.
a properly jetted 139qmb with proper compression MIGHT need 1 or 2 pumps on a cool morning here in NC, no pumps at all when warm and lots of pumps if sitting for more than a week.
most people flood them. i have watched with my own eyes some customers of mine pumping the piss out of the throttle, flood it and complain it will not start.
A properly tuned and perfectly running 139qmb should only require the tiniest crack of the throttle to crank on a cool morning. maybe one pump. the colder it gets maybe 2 pumps.
if you have to pump the piss out of it like 10+ times, it probably has low compression. I have seen engines that were a very low 120psi that were VERY hard to start but ran surprisingly well once you do get them running....some of them.
What does a compression test on this engine say? be sure to do it properly (oil down the spark plug hole and hold throttle wide open)

Well I have tried all these suggestions but it still is very, very hard to start when temperature is below 65 degrees..It starts fine and runs great when warm outside..Does anyone think that it's possible the problem could be that my automatic choke went out and needs to be replaced?

Maybe , once you get it started does engine kinda hi idle for a short while? There is a thing in tech section on enricher testing.

I don't think it high idles...Once I start it I have to keep throttle turned a little to keep it going until it's warmed up.

Yea usually it idles a little high for a bit untill enricher plunger seats/ extends

Here's Brent's enricher vid:

I'm assuming these enrichers work like the old Taco valves I used to replace when working at an apartment complex up North; they have wax inside that gets heated and expands to move plunger. Just a guess...

I always have problems with my taco valve. After too much taco bell!

jayroid: I have been having a similar problem on my 01' Riva 125. It starts very hard, but when it finally gets warmed up it runs like a champion. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Does it have something to do with replacing the auto choke? I checked the engine compression and replaced the spark plug, so that is not the issue. If anyone knows of a solution to this it would be greatly appreciated!

I was having an issue with starting mine yesterday and it's FAR from cold here. But again, once it starts and it gets some gas, it will sit and idle forever. It also has less than 600 miles on it and was made June of last year. But I was noticing that if I touch the boot of the spark plug wire, it dies out. Seems finicky to me, but these electric chokes are always making me nervous. So it's a good idea to replace both I believe.

Spark plug boots are a common part needing replacement in China scoots.

Spark plug boots are a common part needing replacement in China scoots. I've never had to replace just a boot. Is it worth it to just spend a few bucks getting a new coil & wire attached? Or just the whole wire itself? Wondering if an eBay wire would be fine.
