Hey guys... First post so yesterday my provisional license arrived and I can ride a scooter now I got myself a 1997 Yamaha zuma. Great little bike if anything worked lol. Its a repair project but when I discovered that the airbox casing was missing when I got home I immediately freaked out lol then after caing down it dawned on me, my dads a carpenter so into the workshop I went and fabricated my own casing using 3mm hardboard, some woodscrews, lots of self amalgamating tape (to seal it),some black paint and 15 minutes of my time and I saved myself €50 . So yeah I don't know how long I can keep it going like that but ohwell (its works for now) Cheers, Let me know what your opinion is Conor.

Can't really say I've built any wooden parts for my scoots. I guess as long as it's sturdy enough, has an appropriate inlet and outlet, and is sealed otherwise, it should last for a bit. I'd keep my eyes open for a replacement airbox though. 2Ts don't exactly run clean so even if it can deal with the elements outside, the fuel that may find it's way back into it (reeds are not totally efficient) could have an effect on it. Got pics of this thing?

I'm not sure how this works. Usually these airboxes have an air inlet on one side. The filter is somewhere near the middle. Then the other side has an outlet. With only one side, if you haven't made any mods, it would only have and inlet or outlet. I would think you'd need to make whatever hole was in that side the outlet to the carb, and then modify the board in a way that air could pass through the filter and into the chamber where it can be drawn into the outlet. Other than the vent/hole where air passes in through the filter and the outlet, it would need to be sealed. If you put a hole anywhere else in the box then you draw in unfiltered air. I fixed your post so we can see the pics, but there's pic posting help here : 49ccscoot.proboards.com/post/7984

So its not totally finished yet I'm just about to put a wore mesh in the wood covering the sponge so that it draws filtered air into the box

Oh OK. You said it works for now so I was thinking it worked somehow without allowing air through it. lol
