SO I fiddled with the M1 a little last night. I pulled the boot off the plug and inspected the inside. I removed the rubber on the boot and stuck it back on the plug. Still was having a hard time. I then figured why not feel the plug tip? So I took the boot off and when I touched the plug, it was loose. I could turn it and wiggle it. So I grabbed a socket and tightened it down, but the tip of the plug still feels loose? I have another new spare plug for it so I'm going to replace it tonight.
One thing I noticed though is these plugs don't have the normal tip on them, there's a screw tip. That doesn't seem so secure for the wire to attach to. Isn't there supposed to be a cap that comes with these you can screw on to give it a fatter tip? I'm thinking of swinging by the autopart store tonight and have them pull a brand new plug so I can see. Or would I be able to buy just the tip? (hahaha, just the tip... anyways..)
I still will change the boot, they should be here by this weekend. I'll also change the plug too.
I decided I'm not going to remove the PAIR system since it won't be very beneficial.
I was also thinking. I have a Vacuum gauge I used for my KIA. Has anyone ever used a vac gauge to check for leaks while it's running? Like, what's a normal vacuum rating for 4t (and 2t?) scoots? There's plenty of ports to hook into so I won't have to hook into the line for the petcock. Just a curious thought.
So yeah, what's the best solution to get this tiny plug to have a secure connection to the wire?

The plug should come with the nipple but boots are designed to work either with or without it. The ones that work w/o it are the problem ones. I've got extra nipples if you need them for your new boot. Hopefully you order caps that work with the nipples on the plug.

"I've got extra nipples if you need them" Now how often do you hear that.... The new boots are both NGK boots, the ones that 90GTVert talked about in his posts. So they should handle fine. Maybe when I swing over for the sliders I can pick up a couple from you? I was thinking of grabbing some iridium plugs for both scoots soon too. Let me know when you're free.

I'm off this weekend so just give me a heads up. Don't use the iridium until the 2t is tuned good. They're to expensive to be fouling. I use regulars.

Oh no, I'm not planning on putting an iridium in the 2t just yet, I'm talking in the future once it's set. I agree, too soon to burn that plug up. I have 3 plugs at 3 temps I'm going to use to balance it out over time for now. The 4t is what I need to get reliable again now.

So I did the engine oil and gear oil change today. Thanks Brent! You're a lifesaver! I also changed the plug and put the new NGK plug in that I had sitting around. Gap for the scoot calls between .06-.08mm so I did it at .074 according to the gapper I have, that was in the middle of the two. I applied some anti-seize to the plug. Let me just say this. The oil that came out of there was nasty as all get out! Even the gear oil was dark! She has nice full Mobil Synthetic 10w40 engine oil and Mobil Synthetic 75w90 gear oil in her. 600 miles on the speedo. So before I changed the plug, I wanted to see how it would fire up. It did, no hesitation and even a slightly better idle. This made me happy. But I still wanted to change the plug. Here's the old and new plug side by side. Here's the old plug, top view. So I'm thinking this thing is running a bit lean, no? Or am I just so used to seeing what a 2t plug is supposed to look like that now I'm being paranoid on my 4t? I took the diaphragm off the carb and went to inspect the needle. It's not adjustable. I also slightly bent the tip. A tiny bit came off when I tried to straighten it out though. I'm going to see if there's a spare slide/tip in one of the junkers I have on my patio. So now I'm thinking maybe I need to look into ordering a new carb or seeing of one of the carbs on the other 4t's I have on the patio are salvageable. And what jet size they have. Because if this thing is running lean now, I can only imagine the horror if I put a BBK on it. That being said, now I don't want to go screwing with anything else until I solve this. I took it for a ride anyways. It's a hell of a windy day so speed testing is out of the question. I'm sure with the wind we have today, I'dg get her to 50mph with the engine off lol. As I was riding though, at WOT it started to slow down. I noticed the more I cranked on the throttle, the more it sounded like it wanted to die. So I let off the throttle for a few seconds, then turned it maybe 1/4 throttle (I was stuck on the road and didn't want to stop in the middle of traffic) and it would keep going. I ran it like that for about 20 seconds then back to WOT and it was back up again. Was this a soft seize? PS. Don't any of you stalk me, I forgot to chop my plate out! HAHA! whoops. Oh well.

UPDATE: I managed to pull out the needle from one of the other 4t's I have. I picked from the one that the carb was exposed and the diaphragm was pretty beat up already. I put it in the M1 and was very gentle with putting it back together, making sure the spring was centered (I hope it was). I took a quick trip to ACE Hardware to get some stuff for the VX50. It's a 3 mile trip each way. Half way there riding mostly WOT, it did it again. It was bogging, can't tell if it was a WAAA or a Gurgle. The wind noise was drowning it out and I was concentrating more on getting off the road so I don't get squished.
It didn't die, I just let it idle for a few seconds and it comes RIGHT back to life, normal pickup well better than what it was before the oil change and all. It picks up speed fine up to 3/4 throttle. I was in the store for maybe 5 minutes at most. It started right up and I was on my way home.
On the way home, same thing. I had to throttle down because now I was riding on the side of the road with no sidewalk. I coasted at 1/2 throttle, gingerly bringing it back up to 3/4. I tried WOT for a few seconds, it seemed like it just didn't care to go WOT but it felt fine. Even while at 1/2 throttle, I'd goose it a little and it would pick up (as best as a stock 4t would...) so I'm kind of stumped? I didn't pull the new plug yet, I'll do that in the morning and post a pic if need be.
Anyone?

Your plug looks lean.

So should I duct tape the intake? LMAO! Don't laugh, but I seriously am thinking of restricting the intake a little and see how it responds. I know I won't get speed, but if it holds WOT better, maybe that's a clue? Oh another update! I was able to remove the carb from the OTHER 4t. From the outside, the carb looks better, after market and not stock. The A/F screw is exposed, it doesn't look like someone modded or exposed it. I am letting the carb sit to dry a little then I'm going to take it apart and see what shape it's in and possible soak in some vinegar to clean it. No idea what brand though, looks like an ebay carb.

Here's the carb I pulled off one of the junker 4t's. Hey 2TDave, did you mod this air filter?

I don't know 4t scooter carbs but you could try it or compare jet sizes and see if they're interchangeable.

Well I'm pulling it apart now. It is gross inside. Looks like the main jet is an 85 though on this non-stock carb. So a carb swap may happen tomorrow on the M1. Hmm. Also the needle is adjustable too!

I'm starting to wonder what's causing what feels like a soft seize. I ran it WOT last night just fine before the changes today. The only things I've done since was the engine/gear oil change which the old oils were gross. I also put the new plug in. I checked the gap on the old plug and it was smaller that the gap on the plug I put in. Could that do it? The plugs are the same temp rating.

It look like the gap on the new plug was quite wide. I gap mine to .028... The gap on your used plug looks about right...
