Did an unpleasant discovery yesterday. As some of you might have seen in my 70mph dailydriver thread i bought a new Metrakit SP70 cyclinder.
Some time ago i cut the skirt on both sides to aid for more flow to and through the transfers. I stayed away from the top and bottom parts of the skirt to still keep enough support for the piston when travelling through BDC.
Becouse of the cutaways the skirt has warped and the piston is jamming when it's reaching BDC. I think the skirt was already under tension and with me cutting some material away the brace effect is gone and the skirt is warped to the inside.
Anyway...is it possible make clearance changes to a nicasyl plated barrel? Honing or boring out a minimal ammout to get the clearance at BDP back on track?

Nope, the nikasil would need to be stripped, barrel honed, then sent for a new nikasil replate..The plated cylinders have the best heat shedding, but when mods must be made it get expensive real fast!!

Mehh i was guessing that was gonna be the answer. That's $150 through the drain...Ah well it's a learning curve...and i'll probably end up with a better liner than the mass produced athena stuff. I just hope that razor thin skirt will survive... Btw. Did anybody ever try to shorten the upper skirt on a minarelli cylinder?

Okay, got a tip from a fellow mechanic. Put a peace of wood against the skirt and tap it with a hammer. Just bend it a tiny tiny bit. If it breaks off its too bad but there's really nothing more i can do.
