While waiting on parts,I've been reading forums and thinking.. My project scoot was bought as a "basket case",odometer read around 8000 miles, saw some posts that say Minerelli cranks being short lived with 70cc kits.Just wondering with that much milage, should I think about splitting the cases for a bottom end refurb??As with most of us I'm on a limited budget,so a deal is what I look for,,Heres one of them; cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290348460252&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT What do you guys think?
I haven't heard a whole lot about life expectancies for bearings with 70 kits. You'll probably be alright for a while. If you are up for the job it would be nice to know your bottom end is straight and very cool to up the displacement.
You have to machine the cases to fit the bigger crank. If you are going to go that far, you should bore the cases so you can get a 52-54mm cylinder kit as well. Some of those are designed to work with bigger cranks so you may not have to mess with spacers. I know budget is a concern, but I think it would be worth waiting for extra cash to move straight from 70cc to around 100cc. You will need to mod that pipe of yours and you might need to up the carb size.
I have a vertical mill at work and boring the cases would'nt be a big deal.I thought the 70 cyl would work with a spacer?I could hog out the case mouth for a bigger jug,but thats a bit over the thin budget.Hoping to find a junker Minerelli clone to build up while I can still ride my scoot!

Wow. That's awful cheap for a new crank. I'd be kind of weary just on that basis alone. Wish I had more input but you could be taking a chance. Believe me, I understand budgets. My advice is to bide your time and do more research. The only trouble is the falling value of the dollar lately making foreign parts more expensive by the day.

Fox: It's really just a place to ask a quick question without having to create a whole new thread topic for something simple like spark plug gap or whatever but the members have to look at it a lot so the question is answered promptly.

Fox: The insert image feature and smileys are something I have never seen in a shout box before so that's pretty cool.

Fox: I just realized that there is a character limit of around 200

Senna1Rossi: Ah, gotcha! Thanks, Fox. Does everyone see the Shoutbox, or just the people who you choose?

Fox: Anyone who is logged in can see it but it's down at the bottom so most have either chosen to ignore it or haven't discovered it yet.
