I don't know what to tell you on the gears really. I figure it's best to get the engine setup how you want it and then see what gears you think you need. If it's revved out and won't go as fast as you want, maybe it is time for an upgear. I usually end up liking the stock gears with the extra power though, so I can keep really increase acceleration. So far all of my 2Ts have been capable of 50MPH or better with stock gears. The Triton did 65MPH with stock gears, though it's known for having "highway gears". Even the Venus has seen 58MPH with the stock gears. But again, I have no clue what the gears are like on a ZX.

It doesn't matter primary or secondary can change the final drive ratio. They work together. The winning choice will either depend on what gears will get the ratio you want and/or if primary or secondary sets are easier to install for your scoot.

good morning guys...well my parts are starting to show up.got my bbk, multivar yesterday.. i am going with malossi bbk, lv zx pipe, 4 petal reed cage/24mm carb.. i have a few ? for you guys .........1) will i need to reset the squish band on the bbk?.......2)will i need to port the exhaust on the bbk like i did on the oem cylinder?(1mm up,1mm wider each side).........3)the piston has a boost port window, do i champfer this as well as the ports inside the cylinder?...........i need to split the cases on this one tho, i can already tell the boost port is bigger than oem. i wanna port the boost port and the intake tracts cause they are so smal on the zx.(got that carb, tracts will continue a restriction alond with the boost port)........4)on the boost port itself, you can see where its cut out for the boost port on the cylinder skirt, but pat ways the cut out is gone and you have the full skirt at the bottom.. shouldnt i match that or cut out that part of the skirt? it seems like this would rescrict the boost some. (can send a pic if needed, brent mybe point me in the right direction and i can try to post. i have a pc at the moment. i wanna do this right and not just slap it on and roll out ... i wanna haul ass :burnout:  '(for a scooter).... this will be alot different than a modded stock, now maybe i can catch some of you guys.. ;D ....... thanks in advance for youor help....

1) It needs to be checked at least. 2) I don't know what the Malossi kit is liek for your scoot. For Minarellis the Malossi sport revs around 800RPM higher than the Polini sport IIRC, so you may be satisfied with it as-is. Besides, you wouldn't HAVE to alter the port even stock. ;D 3) If the window has sharp edges, I chamfer it lightly. The main reason you chamfer the ports in the cylinder is ro reduce wear on the rings and reduce the risk of them snagging. That's not an issue on the window, so I don't think it's necessary, it just makes me feel better. lol I chamfer the skirt as well if it feels sharp. Again, I don't feel it's necessary and I'm just doing enough to knock the sharp edge off with emery cloth. 4) I think it would be a good idea to widen it to match the boost port and perhaps cut it a little higher. Here are pics of John's cylinder before and after... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=builds&action=display&thread=633&page=5There's an image posting guide here... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=643&page=1#7984

i just sent brent a few more pics of the cylinder.. the skirt appears to be 1.120in/28.44mm long.. thanks for the reply 190,btw.....not sure if i took the pics you are speaking of but i can try again. .... i did notice that the piston keeps a portion of the small transfer port closed at all times tho...(both sides).. josh had mentioned also just to leave the cylinder porting out and reccomends doing the intake tract and the boost port tunnel, both on the case side of course, but you guys know that tho

The pics fine. It's reduced to 800x600 as a max with some code in the forum anyway. ;D
If there are no markings whatsoever on the rings and they both look exactly the same, it won't matter which is where. If you have a locator pin in the ring lands, you should be able to tell which way is up by how they fit around that.
I'll check my email and get the pics up for you asap.
