Hey guys, few weird issues with my scooter - 2006 Peugeot Ludix AC.
1. Recently replaced clutch/clutch bell/drum brake shoes/variator. Get a weird vibration that occurs bang on 50km/hr (if you hold the speed it pulses over a 3-4 second period), and increases right up to max speed. Gets incredibly wild the faster you go, at about 60km/hr it's even audible (although this could just be everything else on the scooter vibrating). Anything below that and there's no extra vibration, as soon as you back the throttle off it goes away. Problem with the rear wheel such as crap between the mounting flanges or somehow no longer balanced?
2. Occasionally after riding WOT it will die when idling. Only happens rarely, if it hasn't been running at WOT it will idle fine with no issues. No problems starting or anything else.
3. Low beam (always on) continually blows bulbs, headlight is otherwise incredibly dull at idle but fine as soon as you give it any acceleration. Could this be a voltage regulator issue? If not, is there any (cheap) way of increasing stator current at idle for somewhat better lighting?
Cheers guys!

1. If it just started after the CVT and brake service then my first guess is something is a little out of balance in the CVT like perhaps the new clutch/bell.
2. Maybe too large of a main jet or combo of that and rich idle settings. If it's too lean usually RPM will hang so you get a high idle after WOT. Too rich and it may die out or idle low.
3. Most likely a bad regulator causing bulbs to blow. A service manual may have some tests for the rectifier/regulator. You could check the voltage you are seeing at the headlight when revved. Easy way to increase charging/lighting at idle is to raise the idle.

Would it be normal for a clutch to be unbalanced? I'm hoping it's the bell as everything is Locktited in. On that, how do you separate the torque driver from the rest of the assembly? I have one of the fancy ones but couldn't figure out how to fit it. There is nothing visible I can use as the slots all seem to be internal.

It's not uncommon for scoots to have vibrations that seem to come from the clutch/rear pulley and since you just replaced certain parts and the vibration appeared, they have to be the prime suspects. You can make sure the brake isn't out of adjustment and making some sort of minor contact since the shoes are also new, but I don't suspect that's the issue from what you've described. Here's how to separate the torque driver, vid and pic how-to. youtu.be/2EjW-iSP-Q8?t=12m3s49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/357/apart-torque-driver

Thanks heaps for that - did a quick search of the forums and couldn't find that video. I have just gone through and swapped every part apart from the clutch back to factory one by one and I still have the vibration, although not as bad as it originally was. I'm about to go swap that back to the original, fingers crossed that is the problem. Is it possible for a machine shop to balance it? I have contacted the company I bought the parts from, but they are incredibly slow replying to messages.

Some shops may be willing/able to balance parts. It will depend on the shop. Whether the price will make it worth doing, I'm not sure. You can come up with a home rig to try and find heavy spots. I messed around with that on my TaoTao but I think with small diameter parts that spin very fast it may be a challenge to accomplish much.

The new variator could also be the issue. Probably should check to see if the weights are set right, and that each one weighs the same.

Wiped out 200m from my house while testing the clutch. Scooter is pretty banged up, handlebars no longer turn. Luckily I'm young and bounce. Looks like I'll be pulling everything out tomorrow before it's off to the repair shop

Looks like you'll prob be needing a steering stem, but at least you're alright.

Finally heard back from the insurance company, they are happy to pay me out for it and let me repair it. I don't know much about scooter steering parts, guessing I'll need new forks and bearings/etc? Once I get these parts, is it simply a case of bolt everything back together or will I need to get everything aligned/use specialised tools?
Cheers

Looks like probably a steering stem and it would be good to get a bearing set. Hard to know exactly what you need for sure without disassembling and looking it over. I'd suggest doing that before you place any orders. The handlebars and stem have things built in so they can only be aligned one way when installed.
