What are the typical rpm at idle, cvt hold, and max?
According to my tto I idle around 3000(I suspect this reading is high), my hold is around 6000(which is too low, I blame a messed up variator for this), and I can get to 8500-9000 most conditions. This is stock 49cc with an open CDI. I got my new valves today so I will be putting the bbk/head/cam back in tomorrow. Then I will tune the cvt.

my 50cc idled at around 900 and started to grab just over 1000, going by the china tach. max was around 7500.
my 190cc idles at 1200rpm, starts to grab at around 1800ish, not sure about hold, haven't rode it yet, max is around 13000rpm.

1500-2000RPM is common for idle. I do best around 7800-8200RPM usually. Have been around 10,000RPM with a drive belt worn thin. Generally maxes about the same as yours. Basically stock.

I don't think my tto is working correctly, it should be good on the default settings, and it looks accurate off idle, but at idle it reads too high.

If you have it wrapped around the plug wire you can try a different amount of wraps and see if it changes.

No, I was getting real erratic readings that way, I have it directly spliced into the trigger wire to the coil.
With the bbk back on, idle is 2500-3000, holds around 8000, then will creep to max of 10,500-11,000.

Is it set to 1 pulse per revolution? These little 4T engines use a wasted spark system.

Yes, that is the default. It seems accurate at higher speeds just not so much at idle. it's good enough for government work. Lol
