OK so recently my belt broke on my scooter. Before it would go all the way up to 1200 rpm. Now after putting a gates power link belt on I can't get it past 7000 rpm and it goes very slow. I removed the variator and the clutch to put the new belt on. The new belt is alot thicker that the old belt. I'm really confused and pretty bummed if anybody. would help it would be greatly appreciated.

You may have answered your own question there , new belt being alot thicker? Had similar issue using a bando. oem was 17.5 & bando was 18 but seemed to measure a tiny bit more. Seemed to feel better after 100 miles of riding.i guess it seated or stretched ? Was really tuff to put on too.

Yes, a thinner (narrower) belt will allow a quicker take-off and the engine will rev higher than a new thicker belt cause a new belt won't bury itself as deep in the pulleys. You should see improvement as it wears but if you don't wanna wait you can try shimming the variator boss to make the variator pulley slightly wider. That should get the revs up some.
