I have replaced the float unit which did not fix the problem. I looked at all connections, but did not see any loose connections. I saw where I believe it connects on the back of the gauge cluster. I believe where there are three wires held in place by three separate individual screws connected to the back of the gauge cluster. These connections look good as well. I am at a loss. Any ideas out there?

At the gas gauge or sending unit?

I checked the power at the sending unit and I got 8volts at one of the three contact points. I took the unit out and turned on power to see if I manually move the float if anything and the gauge moved but only about 1/4" when I moved the float all the way to one side. It is a new sending unit I might note.

The gage does not move at all if the float unit is installed.

Excuse my ignorance, but do you mean jumper the wires? Or jump the wires by applying voltage to them?

jump the red to the others one at a time and see one should make it go to empty and the other should make it read full.
Excuse my spelling on the mobil posts they seem to get by me more often.

Empty is the default position when there is no voltage present right so I'm confused. I thought the sending unit is basically a rheostat or a dimmer if you will so as the float raises higher and higher the amount of current increases and that determines the needle position. Am I in the ball park at least?
scootlife: I have read that somewhere between 10%-20% of all new electrical parts from china are faulty so you may have gotten a dud there. Just sayin'...

Jumping the wires did not get the gauge to even flicker. I'm thinking it may be the gauge cluster itself. Ordering new one.

Tried jumping wires with sending unit disconnected. No luck
