You can possibly improve hill climbing by going to a stiffer torque/contra spring (the big one in the clutch). It'll help to "pull your belt back into the clutch for a "lower gear" for going up hills. Not as effective as a BBK, but you'd want to install one anyway with or without a BBK to help you out on those hills...

Oh,that's not good at all. A lot of the gy6s come stock with very heavy roller weights.As a trial, pull the variator and remove 3 of the rollers alternating so they are spread evenly.(every other one) Put it back together and see how it responds. It should increase the rpms a bit and make more power.This will help you determine how much weight you will need for your variator to operate within the power band of your particular engine.The manufacturers install the heavier weights to keep the speeds down to meet federal mandates. Do not run it very long with only 3 rollers because it will flat spot them.

The easiest way to remove the variator nut is with an impact wrench but you may be able to break it loose by hand. After you remove the nut,pull the front drive face off the pull the belt off. Then carefully grab the remaining part of the variator and pull it from the shaft. Lay it face down and remove the ramp plate being careful not to loose the 3 v shaped slides. You should now see the roller weights. Remove every other one then put it back together in reverse order making sure the nut is tight. Not too difficult.

Keep in mind that installing a stiffer torque spring would mimic lightening your roller weights. So, if you like the improvement of the lighter rollers, you may want to consider installing the torque spring first and then tuning your roller weights to it...

What is the proper valve settings for a 49cc gy6? My manual says .007 for both but, it also says the scooter holds 6 gallons of gas (1.2 gal. actual) and that I can check the fuel level to make sure I have enough for my trip by using the dipstick...I'm serious.
I saw several youtube videos that showed how to do it and to set both at .005 so, that is what I did. Intake was close but exhaust was wider than that before adjustment. Now I read here that it should be more like .003 and .004? Is it worth it to take it apart and re set them? I get no valve noise, the scooter starts cold with a single kick. It only has 4,000 miles on it and does 43 mph indicated. (No gps to check)

Also, is it a good idea to use a little locktite on the adjuster lock nut threads? I thought about doing this but did not use any last time.

0.002-0.005" are fairly common. I used to use wider settings, but I've stuck with 0.002-0.003" lately. If it starts on the first kick and doesn't make noise at 0.005" then just leave it I suppose. I get nervous if I don't hear valve clatter, but at 0.005" you should have plenty of clearance. I've never used loctite on mine.

I adjusted mine yesterday and put intake to .005 and the exhaust to .006 There is a slight clatter/rattle but that might be my PAIR system. The noise is nothing major. Just need a long ride to test.

As you know, it is not that big of a deal to adjust them again. So, I will most likely set them a bit tighter in the next few weeks. I never adjusted mine on the new scooter because it was running fine after the vacuum leak was fixed but now I have noticed a significant loss of power going up hills and the rpms get real low almost die when I come to a stop so I'm gonna check them tomorrow
