Hey, I currently have 9g rollers and a white contra spring, and my moped revs hard all the way to 60 kph at half throttle, but with anymore throttle it just revs higher but doesn't accelerate, it's as if the power isn't getting to the ground. I have:
Malossi 70 bbk 21mm phbg Fly clutch with green springs and a multivar (9g+white spring)
My friends moped with the exact same set-up as me has 4.7 gram rollers and a red spring and his accelerates much better and has much more top end than me. I'm confused as to why I need such heavy rollers when he doesn't? I tried the red spring and 4.7 and it wouldnt accelerate past 30kph I'm putting 10 gram in tomorrow. Can anyone shed some light on this? at my witts end.

I think you may be going the wrong way with the 10 gram rollers. Normally your roller weights with that set up would be 5.5 to 6 grams. You need to tune your weights to keep your RPMs in the power band for your engine. Going heavier is probably not the way to go IMO.

Nice bike. Welcome to the group. Please stop calling it a moped

Hahaha thanks, I'm in Australia, Moped is way more common than scooter here. In fact my license says Moped on it I'll be trying the 10's today but previously i've tried 6 and it made the problem worse. Could the belt be slipping?

Don't forget..the Malossi Fly Clutch has tension adjustments on the backside..so no matter what color spring you use..you can increase the tension and engagement rpm even more. Therefore if you have tinkered with the adjusting plate you have altered the actual tension on the springs. Set it too high and you will need heavier weights to get a good fast launch. The clutch in any scoot of any brand or type..does not affect your top speed..just your launch speed.. Just my 5 cents..

Try changing the contra spring. Maybe the spring is to strong and it is limiting belt travel. Also, mark your variator with a black marker to see how far up the belt is riding on the pulley faces. There is a fine balance between the weights and the contra spring. It may take some trial and error. Also make sure the belt is the proper one for your engine.

Did some messing around, it seems that my variator ramp is not sliding properly on the crank shaft, If its getting stuck could this limit my top speed and make my revs a lot higher? Currently the fan is stuck on the shaft ill have to fix that before fixing this problem

Make sure the weighted section of the variator slides freely. I had a problem with a brand new Malossi Multivar recently. The brass bushing inside of the weighted section actually moved inward about 3mm and completely changed the whole balance of functionality of the transmission!!! That was a real head scratcher!!! It took a while, but I finally realized what was going on. Also, at times, the bushing would bind on the polished sleeve not letting the belt drop down in the pulley.

If your variator is sticking at all then it will limit your speed and make your rpm skyrocket as it's keeping your tranny in FiRsT gEAr!!!!

Exactly what I thought, the malossi ramp plate is very tight on my crank shaft, already tried cleaning and lubing it with no luck, Should I try filing out some metal? Once I fix this fan I can try

Try using some Scotch Brite on the sleeve and inside the bushing. You do not want to remove too much material, you just need to make sure everything is smooth.

Turns out the ramp plate was sticking and keeping me in a low gear, requiring heavy rollers to be rideable My variator fan some how got striped and needed to be replaced, I picked up a malossi Ventilvar and filed the crankshaft so it was clean and parallel, lubed it and now it runs fine, 80+kph and much more comfy cruising speeds. hopefully this can help someone, I spent ages on this problem

Glad to hear that your problem is resolved. You have to inspect everything right down to the smallest detail.
