Hey guys need help, scooter bogs down, no top end unless I unhook air breather at carb. Then it runs good. I changed carb and it has same problem. I put on new air breather and it has same problem. But if I take off air breather at carb it runs good. I'm at a loss on this one

Try changing the jets in the carb?
Did you make any changes for this to occur

When you remove the "air breather" you are leaning up the air/fuel mix. Sounds like you're running rich and need to downjet.

Bought this scooter with this problem. Was a no tamper carb, drilled heads of screws to get bowl off so it must be stock jet, that's when I took brand new carb off another scooter I have and put it on there . Got same problem

Yes, the other carb probably has a different sized jet in it...

I was thinking of putting different air breather with less restriction, what do you guys think?

I'll have to pull carb back off and see what jet is in it, then order some smaller ones, but I already got an high volume air filter coming in, that's why I'm asking

to the forum! I think kinda the same as the fellas above... jetting would be a better idea. You may get really lucky and have the air/fuel mixture end up right just by swapping from filter to filter, but you really should tune with jets and adjustments rather than trying to tune with air filters. www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5j8gHg5kMc

Yep. ^^^ There's no law that says a cone style filter can't be used. You just have to make sure it's not too lean after installation by doing plug reads and playing with different jets as needed til the spark plug is brownish. If you run lean then you'll burn valves and/or put a hole in the piston. Lean:

Maybe you can get away with opening up the stock air filter box some. In the end you are looking for a brownish plug so experiment and see if you can find a balance with what you already have. The best part is that it's only gonna cost you $0.00 dollars. There's a plug or bung in the end of the snorkel that can be removed. There's a small tube inside the cover that can be removed to open up more flow. You can even drill holes in the cover to allow for more air flow.

Ok guys, thanks for your info, I just got back from taking all restrictions out from stock air cleaner, no change. I didn't drill holes in air cleaner though. I took off carb and checked accelerator pump diagram , it looks good and didn't see any cracks. I pulled out main jet and its a number 78. Put all back together and ran down road, still bogs down bad. Unhooked from carb again and runs good, went about 2 mobiles pulled plug out. Looks kinda slightly white on the top prong, if that's what it's called , base looked brown and white. Can it even be possible the main jet with it being a 78, or is there something else going on here

Guy I bought this from did say he use to get 120 mpg, I didn't believe it though. Maybe he replaced the carb and had the same problem then sold it to me lol, we'll I guess all I can do is start changing jets , what should I start with next size down
