Well pics don't upload from my Android phone and I don't have a puter... The hex I'm talking about behind the variator on a atm50 top right. It appears to be the source of my oil leak what is it's purpose? Do I need a gasket ? Sugestions on stoping the leak

That's a special bolt that holds the upper cam chain guide in the engine. It has an o-ring on it that may have failed. It could just be loose and need tightening. This link shows the bolt, the o-ring and the tensioner. It's easy to strip that bolt so be careful. www.scooterpartscatalog.com/camshaft-tensioner-bolt-151-124.html

I have removed and installed that bolt on a scooter before without having to do anything special first. It was a 150cc but the same bolt. The stretch the o-ring method may work too. You can get an o-ring assortment from Harbor freight or other places fairly cheap.
have you tried tightening it? It may just be loose.

An older post of mine that may be of use here : There was a very clear line around the front of the CVT. This was definitely oil. There was also oil on the CVT cover... but I wasn't seeing oil traveling down the bottom of the CVT as I had been before replacing the seal and after longer rides. I had to go in to get dinner ready, and loaded pics on my computer while I did so. It wasn't until I looked at this picture that I noticed something. It appeared that oil was coming from the cam chain guide bolt. I went back out for a quick look, but I had already cleaned the area and couldn't tell anything. The bolt was tight. After dinner, I fired the scooter up without the front pulley and let the engine oil get some heat in it so it would thin a bit. I shut it down when the oil temp gauge approached 150F. I couldn't see any oil just yet, but temp was rising slowly. I thought I may have to run the scooter down the road to get it under load and warm to see any oil leaking. Before that, I ran my finger along the edge of the bolt and got a line of oil on my finger tip. I stuck a paper towel under there and again collected more oil, so I removed the guide bolt. I didn't have a seal specifically for this bolt, but I found one in a shop kit that was a little beefier and seemed to fit the bill (right of pics). I also applied a tiny amount of Permatex Ultra Grey between the seal and the head of the bolt, so I'll give that overnight and then some to cure before I try to start the engine or ride.

Easy fix if that o-ring is the culprit but keep in mind the oil may be leaking from the crank seal and then it was flung onto the cam guide bolt. The crank spins fast and there is also air turbulence in there when the engine is running so oil is gonna get on everything eventually.
The best way to tell where your leak is would be to wipe everything down real good after you get the variator pulley out of the way and start the engine with a drill motor (counter clockwise) and watch it for a few minutes.
