Hi guys So I have bought my self a yamaha aerox from 1998. My choke lever on the steering bar is not holding in place. When I open it and release my finger it goes back and closes again. Should it do that? Another question would be: when I start the scooter and try to ride it it tries to die on my. When I try to open choke a little bit it picks up the rpms. When driving, it accelerates slowly and goes 50-60km/h. When I slowly open the choke it feels like a turbo and goes 100km/h. Everything is standard except for exhaust pipe. its stage6 replica. Carb is 12mm. I wanted to clean it, but all the cooling system is connected to the carb (for bleeding the system I guess) and I got all scared. Looked like too much work draining everything just to clean it. Do you guys think it might be related to my choke lever? What should I do? try to adjust idle A/F screw? Thanks in advance.

Probably not related to the choke lever. There should be a spring in the choke mechanism that pulls the lever back. Some are stronger than others so it may or may not return by itself. As for the big take off when opening the choke while riding, the carb probably needs upjetted. It probably was not upjetted when the after market pipe was installed. You may as well do a proper cleaning of the carb and fuel system, then you can tune the carb as it should be. Leave most of the plastics off as you tune. Just leave the bare minimum on to safely do a road test as you will probably need to change jets to get it right. Then put the plastics back on when you are confident that it is properly tuned.

Disconnect the tubes from the carb and reconnect one of them back to the head, making a closed loop. Sounds to me like you need upjetting, try a jet 6-10 sizes bigger.

I thought that i might need to up jet. Its just so much work with this scooter. Thousand screws and no space down there. I also need to take of oil tank since it is in a way... To filip: there are 2 tubes going to the carb. These are for bleeding the cooling system?

No, they are for heating the carb during freezing weather, useless if you don't ride below freezing point and most aftermarket carbs don't have the connections. Also the tubes are a PITA when adjusting the carb. You can just connect the 2 nipples together and not hassle much with them, and yeah they are useful for bleeding the system.

You don't need to remove oil tank to change main jet, you only need to unscrew the bottom (float bowl) of the carb (2 or 4 screws depending on carb model). You do not even need to remove the carb. If you cannot reach the screws, you might need to remove air filter and/or belly fairing, depending on your fairing model. Just lie on you back underneath and you will see it.
