Hi, I've a generic xor 50 which I bought over a month ago and basically I didn't have it insured so I was just ridding it everyday in my garden at a speed of 5-10mph. Sooo.. yesterday, I've finally insured it and went on the road today. It was running normally but then when I was at the roundabout, it started to slow down... After when it slowed down, it stopped running and I had to stop (where it said no waiting ._.) and turn it on again. I turned it on after 10 minutes and waited 5 minutes until I started giving it gas - it was running normally, although it was sounding as if the engine was going to turn off again. So I drove it on a road for about 30 seconds and then braked and the engine stopped running again. I had to walk it home as the battery died after 100 times of turning it on, off etc. Does anyone know what the problem is? The moped wasn't running for over 3 weeks as I was on a holiday - charged up the battery and worked fine in my garden but now it just stalls.. Is the carburettor blocked or what? I'm new to scootering so please help! Thanks!

Sounds like it may not be getting enough fuel. I would start by cleaning the fuel tank and thoroughly clean the carb. If that doesn't solve the problem,it may be a bad fuel petcock. Check the hoses for cracks and leaks.

Check the hoses for cracks and leaks. Hmm, I'll check the carb first and then the fuel tank when I'm back home. What if cleaning the carb and fuel tank doesn't help? Can the air filter be a problem? I've fitted a new one in not so long ago. Maybe its getting too much air in?

Not sure if your particular model has the vacuum petcock but they are known for going bad. Make sure the vacuum line doesn't have any leaks. This will cause the valve to not open properly.

I would not think a new air filter would cause a problem. It would actually have more vacuum which would open the valve more effectively. Maybe you knocked a line loose during the air filter installation.

I actually have this type of air filter, so I don't think it would, just asking.

Filter should be fine. Just make sure all of the hoses are connected and are in good condition.

Check the spark plug to see if it is wet. If it is wet, that would rule out fuel delivery problem.

The spark plug is 100% wet as I can't start it up with my charged battery First I'll clean the spark plug, then I'll clean the carb and see if it still has no power. Damn, I need to get it fixed for tommorrow :<

Is the gas fresh or has it been sitting for a while? Today's gas draws moisture and there may be water in the tank. I just serviced a scooter a while back that had that problem. The water settles to the bottom of the tank and is drawn into the carb causing the plug to get wet and not start. Before you put the plug back in, hold it against a grounded metal part and crank the engine over to see if the plug sparks.

The gas has been sitting there for a long time (around 1 month or more) - I took it out a few times as I was checking out the fuel filter and also replacing it with a new one etc.
Thanks for your help by the way, my dad should be home in about 30 minutes so I'll check what's with it.

The one thing that I always do is treat my gasoline with an additive called Seafoam. Use 1 ounce per gallon and it will keep your gas fresh up to a year and it keeps the fuel system clean.

What the hell? I checked the gas tank and it was empty where the fuel meter showed that there was still petrol? I didn't have a chance to do it yesterday (clean the carb etc.) so I'll do that today in the evening if it doesn't rain again... I woke up today at 7, cleaned the spark plug (as it was wet), put the spark plug back in and tried to start it but the battery was dead. Started it from my other battery and it was running all good after I've put 3L of petrol in with 60ml of oil. I drove around for about 10-15 minutes and then came home. Started it up again (the battery was now charged) and took it to my school (to get my results from exams (puke) ). After I got my results, started my scoot up again and drove it back although when I was about 5 minutes away from my house, it started losing power again and it was going slower (I think the speedo didn't work properly as well as I was going like 10mph and it showed 20-25mph...). When I got home it hardly had any power. I turned the throttle and was giving it gas for like 10 seconds and could hear that it was losing power still. Does think kind of 'reveal' any other type of problem or something? :/ If I don't get it fixed I'm afraid I'll have to take it to my dad's friend for him to fix it (if he knows how to). PS. It doesn't cut off now like it did yesterday - just loses power and stops.
