Hi Everyone!
I've recently got my self a Honda SGX 50 (03) model in pretty good condition for a £100.
First thing I've done is changed the oil and the spark plug, then filled the fuel tank to the top and started riding it. First day it was riding very good, maxed it to 45mph, felt very nippy for a little 50cc. On the second day of riding it, on the way back from work when i was stopping at a traffic light after about a 4 mile drive, it just died on me. Did not want to start at first, I've let it cool down for about 10 min and then it managed to drive me home.
Next day it died on me again, twice on the way to and from work.
So at first I thought its a compression problem, so I took the top end of the engine off, and found a crack on the cylinder head. The piston and rings seemed fine, and cylinder was ok too, so I cleaned it all out, bought brand new head and new gaskets, fitted it back together and it started pretty much straight away.
Today I took it out for a spin around the neighbourhood and after a first few circles around the streets, I've noticed that the low petrol light have come on, I've pulled over and checked the petrol tank and there was more than half left, So i've started it back again, it was fine for a bit and then the petrol light came on again and this time it felt extremely underpowered, I've tried revving it but nothing seemed to have happened and shortly it died, and it was hard to start it for a 5-10 min again.
Could anyone have an idea what could be the problem in this case?

Did you clean out the fuel tank and carb after you bought it? A lot of people recommend Seafoam. Though I've never used it, I've heard it works well to clean out the motor and fuel supply. You could give that a try. It could also be cdi related; when they heat up they can sometimes fail. New plug? That's one of the first things I do when I buy a use scoot. Just throwing ideas out there for ya.

Got the plug, but I've not fully cleaned the carb, but just the bits on the outside and not cleaned the fuel tank. Kinda feels like i should have now lol
I now already cleaned the carb out and dried it out with my girls hair dryer, going to put it back together tomorrow and clean the tank and fuel lines.
I have though about a CDI, and when I looked at it i've noticed that it isnt a stock one, got a ducati energia cdi and ducati rectifier thingy or whatever it is, and stock ones on the web look completely different.
To me it now looks like a fueling issue.

The fuel lines are routed in a nice down hill manner. Does not have a reserve switch. I've been thinking maybe its something to do with a breather hole on fuel tank cap, or maybe theres a lot of clogged up crap in the tank. Getting a couple of days of next week, gonna spend some time on the bike, tomorrow im going to purchase new automatic choke, a new vacum fuel tap as the one is there cannot be reopened to be cleaned, and probably will get new fuel lines too. Thanks for the carb manuals.

If you suspect a venting issue, the easiest test is to try it with the cap off. Just gotta be careful not to spill any fuel. If it dies out or loses power you may even notice the air pressure difference when you remove the cap if that's the cause.
