well, i bought a new can of starter fluid, and tried hunting for leaks again, just to make sure. there is no odd changes in idle when i spray the carb cleaner, around the spigot to the carb, anywhere on the manifold or its connection on to the block, or near my pump plug or the case halves split anywhere. im pretty sure its not leaking.
after getting the carb to stop cutting out by going from a 40 or so pilot jet, to the 42 with the airbox attached. i took the airbox off cause id have to rig it on the bike, and just upped my pilot jet 2 sizes and went with the uni-filter. the manifold was ending up wet, and i tried adjusting the mixture screw at idle to get higher rpms and it wouldnt do anything until i hit around a 1/2 turn from all the way screwed in. so i changed my pilot to the 44, and its pretty good. i thik myabe my needle needs, leaned on the 1/4 throttle. after getting it to stop cutting out, i went back out with my 95 main jet, the biggest i could run without the bike running totally crappy, and spitting as it went, at full throttle, i took and put a rich type needle in it. well, it ran. i tried running up and down the road a few times and the bike was still hitting hot temperatures..
so i richened the atomizer tube. it had a 264 anyway i had started with in it. i then changed my needle to a tiny bit leaner needle. i can tell by the tips of the needles, they have .6mm tapers 1.0mm 1.4, and 1.8mm. you can tell by looking at them. i had a .6mm and it was .. running. i put a 1.0mm and went with it. oh and when i first changed from the airbox to the uni-filter after getting it to stop cutting out with the 42 sized pilot jet, it cut out. so i tried to stop having to take it apart so much and went straight to a 46. which made the carb wet, and after messing with it, changing the needle around, and the atomizer, and it still was acting funny, when id get done riding and letting it idle back to my spot i parked it at, to work on it, the manifold would have condensation on it. i lowered the pilot to a 44. it seems to work good. no cutting out, seems that i have some needle problem, but ill deal with that.
anyway, stories a little out of order. i didnt change the atomizer to the 268 from a 264 and change the pilot jet, until i messed around with the main jet a little bit first. it was still overheating. and from, around 2/3 throttle on, i had this weird sound. and after changing the pilot jet and also the needle, i was able to go past, 1/4 throttle without the bike running like total crap and sounding weird. and giving me no power. i had a weird, bwaaaahhhhooh. hollow sound, past 2/3 throttle. or before, rihgt after half throttle. so i tried, the 98 main jet. it ran. temperatures seemed to cool a little, but it was still, hot.
then i tried the 102 main jet. it still ran a little better, and the bad sound, moved up to about 3/4 throttle on up, maknig that hollow sound. it sounded better, lower. like, a running scooter, bzzzzz sound but, from 3/4 on up and where, i had this problem at, it sounded, hollow like, like if i was to buzz withmy mouth, then start making th esound throough my nose instead, is what it sounded like, from 3/4 throttle on up. before it soudned, under 3/4 throttle, like i made it with my mouth. sounded fine, until I got up to 3/4 throttle. and this, was at the 102 main jet.
so thats when, i fixed up the pilot jet, one size lower, richened my atomizer to a 268, leaned the needle from a .6mm taper to 1.0mm taper one. and i was running too hot at the 102 main jet. hit 400 degrees, within a little over a mile straight stretch, full throttle. i knew kind of what it would take. i was thinking, 108. but i went, 110.
went out, and no more, hollow bwaaahhhhh sound anymore. sounded the same from idle to full throttle. power seemed a little better. and I had more power like from 3/4 throttle on up at higher speeds. and i took my bike down the mile long straight stretch. i came back and was able to see the cht gauge. before on the way back, id be back to 400F. and i was riding back and looked and it was, 336F.
ahh. a little roller weight tuning i also went from 6.5gram rollers before, to 7 gram rollers, at first, here tuning. with the bigger pilot jet. to 8 gram rollers. also my speed holds, it wasnt much of a run but, the speed holds 44mph, pushes 48. and slight dips down hills, goes to 50+..
slight needle tuning, fix it at 1/4 throttle, set 3/4 throttle more well tuned. maybe mess with the atomizer. or not. set up the idle screw better. get the right main jet for sure. the rollers, what i can run. check my compression also to see what i got too, and.. ride.. for a week. make sure its running, well. then, toss on my 72cc cast iron kit. bwaahhaa
