I have had the speedometer on my Vino 50 2 stroke broken for about 3 years. I ordered and installed a new one a few weeks ago and it was not getting past 25-28 mph even going down hill. I thought the scooter was down on power so I did a tune up and cleaned everything I could think of AND got a 70cc kit. So I installed that and did some runs with a GPS and clocked in at 42 mph. However, the speedo was only reading 25-30 mph the whole time. Is there a calibration system for the analog speedometers? Everything is tight and installed properly...any info would be great. Thanks

Also, I have seen some videos of Vinos where the speedometer does a smooth acceleration all the way to the top speed. Mine bobbles and fluctuates back and forth under acceleration and cruising...

Are the tires stock or did you install larger diameter tires? Bigger ones will throw the speedo off.
The fluctuating speedo could be due a dry speedo cable. If you disconnect the speedo cable at the wheel, you can pull the entire inner cable out of the outer sheath. Use rubber gloves and put some newspaper down so the cable doesn't make contact with anything dirty like the ground or a dirty workbench. Then use your hand/fingers to smear multi purpose grease onto the cable and feed it back up into the sheath. If the speedo still jumps around then maybe the inside of the speedo itself needs some grease on the gears in there. White lithium spray grease works well for that.
Not a bad idea to remove the front wheel and clean/inspect and re-grease the speedo drive gear even if greasing the cable works. The grease on the drive gears can dry up too and they wear out.

I finally to take the front wheel off. The speedometer gears in the wheel looks well greased and the cable is well greased from the factory I guess because I never put anything on it. I tried to take apart the speedometer itself but couldnt break into it.
Frank: jets are in the mail. hopefully will have some more info Monday

So I pulled off the front wheel where the speedometer cable snaps in. I spun the wheel a couple times and the screw inside spins but stops like it gets caught up and then starts spinning again then stops and starts. I pulled the retaining pins out and took the screw out and cleaned it then reassembled it with no change in results...anyone run into this problem? the cable and the gauge appear to be fine.

I discovered the source of the inaccurate and ultimately dysfunctional speedometer: totally striped drive gear. Got another one and it works great. Thanks for all the info everyone!

Think its possible to run a 125cc speedometer on a 50cc since I am getting more power and going off the 40 mph max on the 50cc one. There are some used ones for kinda cheap on ebay. Anyone done this mod?

Don't thinks it is. I looked into it as I peg the speedo and beyond. But the 50 and the 125 use 2 different set ups and looks like they are not interchangeable.
