Hi, I've been riding about in my town and when I stopped near a shop, the engine stalled which is kind of nothing new to me as it does sometimes stop running when I'm for example waiting at the traffic lights... Soo without any worries that something has fckd up I went to the shop and bought some goodies. When I came back and tried to start it up it didn't. During my riding about I heard like a 'snap' or 'scratch' when I was about 20 seconds away from the shop which I was going to - but it kept working normally so I didn't stop and see what has happened. I walked it back home (urgh... 3rd time) and when I tried to start it up again, I each time heard like a little scratch coming from the drive belt. Here's a video: sendvid.com/qljqb77tCould it be that the drive belt has snapped or what's going on? You can hear the little (it sounds louder in real life) scratch about 2 seconds before the end, each time I tried to start it up. The battery is charged 100%! I've tried starting it with 2 batteries but it's not the batteries fault.

I'm not sure what that is, but I know my first step would be to take out the cover bolts and pop the CVT cover off for a look. You may find out that easily what's wrong.

I took of the CVT cover and checked the belt and everything but its all fine. What could be the issue? The battery is charged, I checked the spark plug and there is a spark, I have fuel inside and don't know what's going on....

It's cranking over very fast. Check the compression.

It's cranking over very fast. Check the compression. But isn't it cranking over very fast because I've increased the RPMs?

You said that you're getting fuel and that you're getting spark. Now you need (compressed) air. Like Brent said, and I agree, that motor seems to be spinning pretty fast from your electric starter. They don't usually spin so fast. So a compression test should be done.
Also, when you checked for spark, did you have the ground electrode touching the motor? It needs to be grounded to know for sure.

Wow, I went back after reading Brent's post and watched the video again. Not only is it cranking pretty fast, I do not hear any resistance on the compression stroke. At least, on mine, I can hear the starter slow under the strain of compression. This is very subtle but I can hear it when it happens.
Leaking valve/s? He says it runs fine after starting, I would think that if compression is low, it would run like crap as in no power. I am at a loss.

And isn't that a 2 stroke motor? I'm just going by the case, so I'm not sure.

Spaz, thanks. If that is a 2T then I know very little about them other than there should be some compression while starting. I wonder if he kicked it if he could tell if there is much resistance to his kicks? Other than that, I have no idea. I was probably confused with a guy in another topic that said it was hard to start but then runs fine. You are right, I don't think he got it going again.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, its a 2 stroke scoot. I don't know how my dad tested the spark, but I presume he did it as it should be done, since he had his own bike a few years ago. And yes, I couldn't start it up again after this has happened so you have confused me with someone else When starting up, it does sound somewhat different to what it sounded like before this has happened. I'll check the compression if I find something to do it with :/

I apologize for my thread confusion. What about your kick start? When you kick it, you should be able to feel if it has any compression or not. Not as good as a gauge for sure but, at least that might tell you something if the kick lever just goes right down with little to no resistance.

Could it be that the piston was swollen due to the high temperature maybe? I've been going at a high speed down my main road so could it be this do you think?
I'll charge my batteries and see if it starts up now. The piston should be back to normal if it was swollen (although I tried to start it up yesterday but nothing).

Okay so I tried to start it up with my fully charged battery but it just sound waaaaay to slow now when I'm trying to start it up - as if it has no power to start up, although the battery is charged.
Perhaps its because its too cold - I'll check in the morning and see if it still sounds wayyy to slow when starting up.

Still not working... Waited 2-3 days without touching it and doesn't start.
It sounds as if it wants to start but just doesn't, although it doesn't crank over as fast as it did before in the video.
