Just curious, but what is the best way to clean inside the CVT? Dumb question, but I don't want to mess up any seals..
I figure I would just remove the variator and clutch, and spray it down with some brake cleaner or carb cleaner to remove the belt dust.
Is that okay to do?

Yeah, and I think it's less corrosive to the rubber seals then carb cleaner? I could be thinking backwards though??

I cleaned mine with a pressure washer and purple power then dried it with s heat gun and Preped it for paint and used 600 degree clear coat to cover the whole thing/inside out, also did my entire engine /exhaust as well .,,,, so now all I have to do is basically wipe or use compressed air on any area that's dirty with a paper towel and bam it's good as new nice and shiny l...!!!!

I usually use brake parts cleaner. Simple Green works, but requires a lot of scrubbing/wiping or a pressure washer follow up. If I use a pressure washer, I avoid spraying the seals directly and I change the oil and gear oil just to be on the safe side.

I send mine to the dry cleaner. I just blow it with compressed air.

Paint brush to loosen and compressed air. If there is little dust left in the corners and nooks I don't sweat it. If there was/is and oil leak in there then that produces more of a challenge. I use engine degreaser and the water hose then finish with rags.
I can see trying to get it all nice and sterile if you are gonna paint it but if not I feel no need to clean it spotless cause the belt is just going to start throwing rubber powder all over everything in there as soon as you run it again.

I use the janitor version of 409 sold at Home Depot. It's called 505 by ZEP. Spray it on and garden hose off.

Since I'll be working on my clutch this weekend, I figured I'd mess around with actually cleaning up the belt dust! Seriously thinking about also modding my CVT cover while I'm at it to get a little more airflow going..
Thanks guys!
I've noticed not to use simple green or purple power on aluminum. Seems to be a bit corrosive to the aluminum on other aluminum things I've cleaned with those products..

I haven't had any trouble cleaning with Simple Green. Soaking for an extended time is a different story.

You could try this: Gets every little corner shinny and clean. Kat, Funny you show that. I did exactly that when I was rebuilding my Land Rover engine and put the heads in my dish washer. Works amazing but my wife nearly killed me when she found out!!!!
