So my buddy said he installed a 72cc bbk but didn't know about making sure the timing was good. So I guess now the timing is off. How would one go about resetting the timing correctly?

Click the link and read it. The cam/valve timing is down toward the end where it shows installing the cam. Just like a valve adjust, you have to line up the T mark and install the cam in the proper position on the chain. That means removing the cam chain tensioner and reinstalling it once you get the cam set right. You can access chain tensioner through the cover held on with two screws. Pay special attention to the part about resetting the chain tensioner before reinstalling it. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/350/big-bore-kit-installationTensioner cover:

so its as easy as making sure the wheel is on the T mark and the holes on the cam are lined up like they are supposed to once the chain is put back on and making sure the tensioner is reset when u put it back in

Yep. If you install the tensioner fully extended it's gonna be too tight and wear out the upper chain guide and/or even possibly break the chain so you remove the spring from the tensioner, retract the plunger and then on reassembly you install the tensioner body and then insert the spring and cap on there so it's not over-tensioned
Once you get the cam in the chain you push it down into the "stirrups" so it's seated where it runs and check the alignment T mark/holes. Once you are satisfied install the rocker assy with the "EX on the bottom. I always loosen the valve adjusters up before removing any rocker assy. makes it go back on smoother

I don't wanna rip him off tho

It would take me around 30 minutes so I would charge the guy a little less like $35-$40 so I would increase the chances of him calling me in the future if I were looking for more work but hey, if the guy seems happy with $50 then charge him $50 and he will probably still call you back.
Word of advice if you are planning on doing repair work, don't EVER EVER NEVER EVER do work on credit. People suck and they will take advantage of you if you let them. You tell them the scooter will be returned upon completion of payment, no exceptions!
If they look thuggish, reek of weed and try to talk you down on your price, tell them to take their scooter elsewhere because they are going to try to cheat you. It happened to me four or five times til I finally wised up. These guys all brought scooters to me and when I told them to come pick them up they came short on cash and they said they would pay me the rest on such and such date and being the nice guy I am, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and of course none of them paid me on time and a couple of them stiffed me completely. I came to find out those two were related to each other. That was the last time I will ever give a guy a scooter back before I get ALL the money.
One time I put over $100 of my own money toward parts for a scooter and I took a check off the guy that said he was a doctor and drove a nice car. His check bounced and it took the guy a long time to make good on it. He kept telling me the scooter was for his autistic Aspergers son like that was supposed to make it okay to screw me over. So after a bunch of emails back and forth he finally calls me up after 3 weeks or so and I had to drive for an hour each way to pick up my money so DON'T TAKE CHECKS EITHER!. CASH ONLY NO EXCEPTIONS.
