Still working on the Vino build. After WOT I will let off the gas but the scooter will still accelerate as if the throttle is wide open. This also happens sometimes when the bike is on the stand and the back wheel is off the ground it will go from idle to full on without me touching the gas. Could this the reed valves letting air in or the transmission? Even looking at the throttle cable they dont appear to be stuck. Im having a hard time diagnosing this

Remove the airbox so you can look into the carb and at the slide with a flashlight. Turn the throttle and see if the slide snaps back closed with you close the throttle. If not you've found your issue. Don't know much about the setup you have. Is it a two cable throttle or just one?

Its a vino 50 2 stroke with a double cable using the standard airbox without the filter or snokel. I just installed a 70cc kit and it has been happening with a 87.5, 90, and 95 main jets. I will look in the carb when I have some light tomorrow thanks

also check that your grip is not slipping up onto the throttle housing and binding up against it , causing it to catch and hang open. I prefer a 1/8in. gap between the two. my off road stuff is wire tied.

Sound like it might be lean. Make sure you have everything tightened up for the airbox carb and intake. You might be sucking air.

if its a lean jet issue a 105 wont solve it, its a pilot jet issue. unless you have a low fuel bowl level to cause it to race away or a air leak. having no filter only makes it worse. try rich'n up the idle air screw and teke her for a spin. all carb adjustments should only be done to a warm engine

I'd second chuck and say you're causing yourself a bunch of trouble without that filter in there. May not make your issue go away completely but it's better for your engine in the long run to have the filter in there.

another member just told me to run it without the filter or snorkel when I put in the 70cc kit so I will try it with the filter and see what I get. Would that have anything to do with it dying and not restarting again? that also happened with the 90 and 95 jets after about a mile and had to walk it back. It ran great and then just cut out and wouldnt start back up. then when I put the snorkel back in it would idle but wouldnt accelerate even at WOT...

Mine will not run right with out the stock airbox and filter on a stock carb. It's worth a try. Always do the easy stuff (free stuff) first.

Could this be why the engine revs out of control? the fan blew off and took a chunk of the case and the plastic cover with it. Im not sure what it does im just trying to figure it out. I did re attach the airbox with the filter and the scooter is running better. Could the reed valves be getting stuck in the intake causing the engine to take off? It can happen even sitting at idle it will just rev hands off the control and everything and using the rear brake will stop it. Idle speed screw shouldnt be the problem because its set to a solid idle but the revs go crazy from time to time especially after WOT for a few seconds Its like having cruise control but full speed.

DO NOT RUN THE SCOOTER WITHOUT THE FAN! It's the only thing cooling the engine and without it the engine will burn up. You've been warned.

Warning heeded. So this does not affect the rev issue?

It will effect how the engine revs up since it draws a considerable amount of power. Removing it free's up that power, but as Fox said, it's an engine killer running without it.

As for the erratic idle and the delay from release of throttle to the actual engine slowing down I think an air leak was mentioned earlier in the thread. Get a new fan and then once it's running and warmed up spray carb spray at the intake boot area. If it changes when you hit it with spray then you may have pinpointed the issue. Did you put any type of sealant on the intake and reed block when you assembled it?
That hole in the case where that piece broke off is going to reduce the cooling air that is pushed toward the cylinder so try to JB weld it back together or something.

Well, there wasnt as gasket installed with between the intake and the intake port. I will try the carb cleaner when I get the fan installed. And I didnt intentionally remove it...I was riding and it blew off. I couldnt even find the screws in the road anywhere so weird Ive never messed with the stator or anything I just took the shroud off when I was doing the engine build. But Im not riding it til then for sure. Everything with the carb and the intake is bolted down tight though I made sure it was well connected. But the clamp holding the carb to the intake was broken and right now I have a zip tie down tight could that be the culprit then? seemed solid to me...
