Hello everyone. .... I'm having a major issue. ....I went out today to start my scooter and as soon as I pushed the electric start it just kept trying to start even after the scooter started....I had to quickly get into the battery compartment to shut power off to it to get it to stop. .... and when I went to hook the battery back up it was still trying to stay even without the keys in the ignition. ...... anyone know what would cause this to happen. .... thank you

Your starter relay is sticking. Mine does the same. Follow the wire from the starter right up to a little round device with 2 big wires and 2 small ones. Give that little round gizmo a few wacks with the big end of a screwdriver. That will cure it for now, but you'll need a new one. www.amazon.com/Scooter-Starter-Relay-Solenoid-125cc/dp/B009T017P4

Starter relay may be stuck. It's kind of a big solenoid switch that closes when you hit the start button. You can't run that many amps through the start button cause it would melt so the button triggers the relay and that allows current to flow directly from the battery to the starter unimpeded. They are cheap and super easy to replace. Disconnecting either one of the two large wires will make the starter stop turning with the battery connected. It's possible that hitting the relay with a screwdriver handle or something will un-stick it. You can take the relay apart and try to fix it. I just buy a new one. If the relay is the issue and you can't free it up, then order a new one and in the mean time you can put a household light switch between the two main wires to take it's place while you wait for the new one to arrive. I did one and one other guy I know of did one. I did mine inside the seat tub so I could easily access it to start the engine. You just flip the switch to start the engine and flip it off when the engine starts. A light switch costs about 89 cents at Home depot. Seems hokey I know but it works as a stop-gap so you don't have to use/abuse your kick starter. www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2050601.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XGy6+styarter+relay.TRS0&_nkw=Gy6+styarter+relay&_sacat=0

Fox: Great info. Mine has the reverse problem...it will only close when I bounce the scoot a few times so..it is getting stuck open. I was going to take it apart and clean and lube it but, with that link that Katastroff posted, I will just get a new one. That price is 1/3 the price I had found for one.
Thanks to both of you fellows.
Bill
PS I really like that electronicsandmore guy. I am into electronics and subscribe to him and love his vids.

Well, I had some time today so I opened up my scoot to take apart the starter relay/solenoid and, it turns out mine does not look like any of the others i have seen here. It is totally potted with epoxy and it appears I would have to destroy it to take it apart so, I guess I will be ordering a new one.
The relay in the link posted above looks nothing like mine...does that matter? Mine has two wires on slide connectors on the top end and on the other end, the wires (Inside a cable) disappear into the wiring harness further down on the frame somewhere and can not be unplugged from the unit at the unit. I am sure there is a plug somewhere on down the line but I would have to remove body panels to find it.
I should have made a video, I wanted to make sure this was the source of the clicking noise when I hit the starter button so, I had to hold the brake with my left hand, put my right hand on the relay, and hit the starter button with my nose, ha ha. I know I could have tied the brake handle back but did not have anything handy with which to do that. I'll bet my neighbors were wondering just what the heck I was doing out there.
The electric starter still works but I have to hit the button many times and sometimes bounce the scoot to get it to go so, it is time to replace it.
Bill
***EDIT***
Well, I am an idiot! It is official. The device I was touching was my coil...Duh! I felt the clicking as both of them are bolted to the frame. So, now I am sure that any "standard" scoot relay will work.

Funny, I did hear a small, distorted beep but, I thought it was the gal next door hitting her key fob as she walked to her car. Like I said...I am an idiot. I have done some really smart, intelligent things in my life...and I have done some really stupid things as well...hopefully...it all balances out.

Just a random thought, but have you checked to see if your starter Bendix is sticking at all? Perhaps try removing it and see if the problem still occurs while the starter is turning by itself?

Good call. If the spring on the Bendix is not retracting, then the crankshaft would continue to run the starter motor. This might just be his problem. I had not thought of that. Bill

OK, yes, I see. So, once the scoot was no longer running, the starter was still engaged. You are correct. I missed that part of the original post. Bill
