Im thinking about relocating back to Daytona Beach soon and am wondering what the laws are for scooters down there. From what I have seen you are required to have a class "E" license, but Im not sure what that means. Here in the state of Virginia you only need to register it and have tags, no type of drivers license needed for anything under 50cc.
So can somebody tell me if I would need a drivers license to operate a scooter in Florida?

Here in the state of Virginia you only need to register it and have tags, no type of drivers license needed for anything under 50cc. So can somebody tell me if I would need a drivers license to operate a scooter in Florida? As long as you register it and have a drivers license you are set, I'm from kissimmee, close to Orlando You will need to register it and transfer the title to a Florida title. You will also have to buy a tag. All told it will probably be $250 to $300 for the scooter. You will need a valid registration and title from your state. If your state does not require scooters to be titled you must have receipts/ bills of sale showing ownership back to the original MSO. To drive the scooter 50cc or less, you will need a valid operator's permit (driver's license). If you are under 21 then a helmet is required. If you are over 21 a helmet is not required if you carry $10,000 medical insurance. Insurance is not required for scooters in Florida. If the scooter is over 50cc then it is considered a motorcycle. You will then need a valid motorcycle license or a driver's license with a motorcycle endorsement. Both the motorcycle license and the motorcycle endorsement require you attend a motorcycle safety course. Hope this helps and welcome to the shoeshine state.

My license has been suspended, so I cannot operate a scooter in Florida, right? An electric scooter with pedals are considered electric bicycle and can be driven without a title, registration, tag or drivers license. They will usually get to 25 mph and go 30 miles on a charge. Those, bicycles and horses are the only things you can ride in Florida without a valid drivers license
