Going to be installing a 50mm bbk, it comes with a new oil pump, on my 47mm kit it didn't come with one. Is it necessary to replace it with the new one? Not even sure where its located or how hard to change it

I don't think that you need to change it. I didn't on mine either, but if you are gonna rebuild the engine then replace the oil pump. I didn't do that either and i busted the crankshaft shortly after ( but used a race cdi though and had helicoil at the oil drain plug hole ). To replace the oil pump, you will need to remove the stator and pickup coil and remove the bolts after that ( 8mm m6 bolts ) and so on. Then this thing from the engine will come off ( you need to replace the gasket then ) Then the plastic wheel from the oil pump and 3 oil pump bolts

I don't think there's much point in swapping it. Someone that sells kits including pumps told me long ago that the pump was just a stock replacement. I never used mine. Over the years on forums most people don't bother and don't have any trouble related to the oil pump.

I thought this was the case, seems like an extra headache if its unneeded. I've never heard anyone mention about swapping it when they did their bbk. Kinda odd they include it in kits, almost making you think its upgraded and needed to support the bbk

It's a plastic gear and the engine is most likely gonna be out of the scoot. If you have a stator puller it's not that big of a deal to change it. I change mine out just because I was still getting metal shavings and particals with my second oil change left over from manufacturing. I figured that crap and through that pump at a hard 9000rpms. And I mean hard, so I figure why not. Better safe than sorry. Eight year old Chinese boys probably aren't the greatest with an air hose after assembling the engine on 70hr Friday work week. ;-)
