Hello all, I'm new to the group. Just picked up a 2014 peace sport only has 1500 miles.it had been sitting for a few months. Cleaned out carb and fuel system got it running good. Road it a few times then one time I was riding and came to a stop and it died. Now it starts up and dies after a few seconds. I swapped carbs and chokes with a known good one I have. Did not changeanything.Any other suggestions?

I would check your vacuum lines to see if there are any leaks, also check and see if you have fuel in the vacuum line going from intake to petcock when your turning it over. I would also check if your getting fuel at all

No fuel in vacuum line, as for leaks I did see any. I'll take a closer look. Is it possible the valves may need adjusted? It has 1500 miles idk if the have ever been done. It just seems unlikely because it was running great and and I stopped in my driveway and it cut off and hasn't idled since

It just seems funny that it starts up then stalls, that tells me it's getting spark. Mabey running out of fuel , if you pull of fuel line from carb and crank motor over are you getting plenty of fuel through the hose. The petcock is vacuum operated.

It pushing plenty of fuel, carb is getting gas. There are no adjustments on this carb and the needle jet looks clean. Iv read that valve adjustment is critical on scooters but seems like it wouldnt run fine then just not at all. But I'm no expert

Is it still starting and stalling or just not starting at all now,?
I would pull the spark plug out after turning it over a few more times and see if it is wet with fuel ,also check and see with spark plug out if your getting spark when you turn it over.
If you are getting spark from spark plug and fuel then do a valve adjustment. .oo3 intake .004 exhaust

Does sound like it needs a valve adjustment. I worked on one that would drive 100 ft. then stall. Valves adjusted and presto it ran like a champ.

A GY6 Peace Sports that has sat around for a while probably has sticky valve heads. A feeler guage can be acquired from most hardware stores (they're sorta sharp so I recommend gloves or caution when working with them).. Searching on YouTube for 139QMB or GY6 50cc valve adjustment can lead to some good video tutorials, as this one (except I never took the fan cover off myself.. just the other parts): youtu.be/MxzW9aYA_6UPeople recommend .004 to .003 (feeler gauge) settings on intake and outtake valves.. I've been lucky with a 'tighter' .005? (relative to .004) setting with a fairly decent secure but not-over snug on the valve bolts that lead to long-lasting results as thus yet, ~14,000km. Another thing for a scooter that has sat around for a long time is ethanol clogging the carburetor jets if a tank blend of ethanol wasn't run through / added to the tank prior to it's seasonal storage. Every 4,000km I've added the recommended dose of 'mechanic in a bottle' to the fuel mixture to help clear & protect the main / idle jet / and carburetor itself. If a fairly well done valve adjustment leads to further error even after pouring some mechanic in a bottle in the tank and revving it to 30-40% max rpm on the main kickstand for a minute or two with a few idles (to let the idle jet itself clear).. then I'd say either remove the original carburetor and mod it with new main / idle jets.. or simply buy a Keihin Carburetor that I've personally found a couple MPH improvements on top with an Iridium Spark Plug and Orange Coil wire. Also the vacuum linecould have a leak, within 4 months mine was discovered to be worn with an air leak and not letting the right amount of compression occur or something like that in tandem with the 'fuel petcock' not delivering fuel well. A replacement 3/16" inner diameter 3/8" outer diameter platinum cured silicone hose has held up well for my vacuum lines. As far as fuel lines go I got some 4mm ID | 8mm OD with new filter waiting for later. New Spring Clips for the whole joint is recommended as they too can rust out.to recap the recommended procedure: 1. check / regap the valve heads 2. try ethanol cleaning additive 3. vacuum line check the carburetor / spark / coil replacement just recommended in america imo. probably why commercial brands i.e. yamaha, honda, kymco, vespa, and others use better parts off the bat because as other folks have mentioned in this forum the china doesnt have ethanol. theres probably more dead scooters in florida than there are wild deer.. |

I checked valves and still no go, I'm leaning towards a carb issue. I'm getting gas to carb but after cranking the plug seems pretty dry. It doesn't look like there is anyway to take carb apart. Could it really go bad after 1500 miles?

The Usual suspects:
Old gas
Clogged idle jet
Faulty petcock
Vacuum leak like a cracked hose or a cracked intake elbow
Leaky/burnt/warped valve causing compression loss
You can unseal that carb to check the float and jets.

I would check the compression like fox said just for the heck of it. But if its not getting the spark plug wet when turning it over . I'd say it has something to do with the carb or vacuum which could be valves leaking or carb clogged .

chopfather8, does the engine look as if it was leaking oil? I ask because it's possible the previous owner ran it too long on the original factory oil and/or ran it with little to no oil and damaged something inside. It's a common tale. Just because an engine has low miles on it doesn't mean there is no mechanical damage. many parts are faulty when new on these Chinese machines so you can't take anything for granted. I would check the compression like fox said just for the heck of it. But if its not getting the spark plug wet when turning it over . I'd say it has something to do with the carb or vacuum which could be valves leaking or carb clogged . Compression loss = vacuum loss. If a valve is leaking bad then when the piston is on the intake stroke (moving down) it won't draw as much vacuum through the intake cause it has another pathway (the leaky valve) so little to no air/fuel enters the combustion chamber. That leaky valve also limits compression so any air/fuel won't compress to a mist at TDC and therefore won't fire. Bad rings = vacuum and compression loss. One other thing to check is that the intake is making a good seal on the head. Many times the O-ring will fall off unseen and an intake will be installed without it which is a vacuum leak again. A sloppy/bad lower connecting rod bearing can also cause a non start cause the piston doesn't reach full TDC lowering compression so again you get incomplete atomization of the fuel/air mixture which may fire or may not but the engine will not run long if at all. If one of the piston pin circlips pops out it will destroy the rings and gouge grooves in the cylinder wall which again results in compression loss. |

Mine is starting to do the same thing but it seems like its only doing it when it warms up .. yesterday i did a 15 mile trip from home to work and it went flawless and when i went home it died on me 4 times..but im not sure if its because of the cold air in the morning and i have it tuned for cold air.. and it got to 70 yesterday afternoon, and 45 in the morning..any ideas??
