Hey Fox don't some of those cdi boxes advance or retard the spark timing?,which could result in hard starting with the starter motor.

I have seen so many posts of aftermarket crap either not living up to the hype, failing soon after installation or simply being faulty right out of the box. many stock parts fail too so it's all a crap shoot in that respect but most of the Chinese made stuff that says "Performance", "Racing" or any of the other code words they use to separate you from your money are all just bullsh*t in a pretty dress.

Installed new battery and still seemed kind of weak until the wires to the switch I installed for the starter to jump the solenoid (starter button quit working) were smoking, probably because they weren't big enough. Needless to say if I just use a screwdriver on the solenoid it cranks really good and healthy. One of those duh moments with those wires

I've tested mine with a 9v battery. Sounds like your solenoid needs replacing to me.
