Hi everyone! I'm new here to the forum and looking for help in a strange issue I have with my scoot. So here's a quick recap of the issue and story. I upgraded my retro to a 80cc bbk from my normal mechanic. Ever since then I've had nothing but problems with the scooter and it get worse everyday. First I had a bogging out issue, I couldn't do a 5 mile drive without stopping 5 times. Not only that, but it was shooting out gas like crazy. Took it in, it was a carb issue, he forgot to change to jet. Perfect for about a week. Afterwards, now I have an oil leak issue, I can't keep it in. I inspected myself and found that the oil is coming from the base of the cylinder where the gasket is, and from the breather hose on top of the head. Not only the leak, but the scooter is burning the oil, on start up a huge cloud of white smoke follows me. To add on, now I'm bogging out again but worse. I took it in again and he wants to charge me the same price he did for when he installed my bbk. Now I have more problems, between the smoke and leak, the scooter will not idle right. Stopping, being still, or starting up, the engine begins to lose RPM and makes a weird knocking noise as it dies. And on top of that, now recently when I take off from a stop the engine makes a load whining noise, as if the piston doesn't want to move. It causes it jump a little. One more, when driving for a drive, I don't have any of the above, because is at full speed it makes a weird metal spinning noise as if the gear behind the flywheel are having trouble keeping up. This is a new scooter, I've had it for almost a year and put about 6,000km on it. I'm very on top of maintenance and don't like it when little things come up. (Let a missing bolt. Makes me crazy to see that.) If anyone can help me debug or give me advice on how to approach this matter. I wish to do the repair work myself, as I have lost trust in my local mechanic. For easier break down of issues here is a list: - Bogging out
- Oil leak from cylinder and breather hose
- Knocking noise on idle, stopping, and being still. Engine dies are result
- Loud squeal from cylinder on take off, sometimes a jump will happen
- Loud metal whining noise coming from flywheel area
- Blowing out LOTS of white smoke

It sounds like you may have an issue with your piston rings causing blowby, in addition to a base gasket needing to be replaced. I wouldn't spend much time worrying about the performance issues until those are fixed, because if you get much oil into the cylinder it will affect combustion and how the engine runs. I would at least have a new set of piston rings around with a gasket set when you work on it. Take your time and check everything over. Here's a link to a BBK install that may be helpful, and look in the manuals section for service manuals for the 139QMB as well. www.49ccscoot.com/bbk.htmlDid the mechanic just leave the hose from the valve cover off, not connected to anything but the valve cover? You would need to inspect to see if anything is making contact to cause the noises.

Thank you for the information, and yes he did. I asked should I cap it like in your videos. But he was highly against it, so it just hangs of the side of the scooter. At first the oil was coming out of there, you can see in my pictures the CVT case is soaked in oil. But now its coming out of the hose and cylinder base.

Well good news! I found someone willing to sell me a brand new 80cc bore kit on craigslist here in Vegas. After the install, I gave it a kick and it started right up. But....it started smoking, really bad. I left the scooter to idea for about an hour hoping it will clear up. It didn't and then I took it for a easy slow ride and then it cleared. But I'm still having some problems. One, it's not going full power liked I hoped. Even before with a damaged kit, I could still get full power. This time with this kit, it seems that my scoot is having trouble getting to speed and refuses going pass "30". Secondly, I'm still bogging out. After a few miles it starts to have trouble running, but it doesn't have fast. It drops slow, and when I pull over to the side of the road, I just have to idle and give it a few revs to bring it back. Any idea what this can be? My cam is timing, I adjusted the valves after installation, and adjust idle and air/fuel. But I'm still bogging. Plus, there is only light smoke coming out of the breather hose on the head, but only during bogging. DURING INSTALLATION So this is what happened when I opening the engine. My engine cover and its little gasket are cooked. The inside of them of covered in oil and partially melted. When I opened my head, the inside was covered and just dripping with oil. After removing the head, I saw the top of my piston was nothing but black. Just a thick layer of whatever on it. I looked on the bottom of the head, and saw the same, valves and spark plug are covered with the same residue. (What should I do, try to clean it and the valves or just replace?) Then I removed the cylinder and smelled the worse small ever. I can’t describe what it’s like, just know, it was BAD! After removing the cylinder, I looked inside and saw that half of it had a light brown stain in the metal, my piston was worse. It had a purplish color to it. And the pin was burnt also. And the rings were so loose, I can easy pull them off with my finger, looked like they were not gapped or too big. The base gasket was completely melted to the engine block and just thinner than the space between the two parts.

Did you rejet the carb? Must rejet carb after BBK install.

I noticed one thing that may have been overlooked by other members and that is the end gap of your rings. First a good quality set of rings are invaluable. most of the rings in the bbk kits are junk. As for the end gap here you can find the calculator to determine the correct gap. www.49ccscoot.com/calculators.html All you need then is a set of feeler guages wich you will need anyway to set your valve lash and a small file.

Based gaskets are notorious for leaking. That said there's a bolt into the cvt that holds the fan shroud on. Oil will get through that bolt hole thus spilling motor oil on your cvt parts which causes what? Exactly slippage of the belt and gumming of variator and torque drive pulley. Just gear oil for thoughts.

Ok so I found out why I didn't have any power to the engine. One, I adjusted the valves wrong. Secondly, I found out there was a hole on the side of my muffler. My friend told me that was causing my engine to lose pressure and overheat. So I replaced it with a spare one I had laying around until I get a better one. And it runs beautifully I got my speed back and no more smoke. But when I was working on the repair, I had this in my head. I had a lot of carbon build up in my system. So I had to take it apart again, because the engine was not firing right after a long ride. I tried to clean it off with a light scotch brite, (I think I made an opps in doing so.) How should I approach cleaning this. And if I did damage it is there a way to fix it? Or should I replace the head and valves?

The scotch brite should be just fine don't panic.

Ok so I've fixed everything, and the engine was running fine. But I have a very small drips of oil coming from the engine. I've checked the cylinder and the breather hose, and they're dry. The oil seems to be coming from the engine itself. I have the right kind of oil in there, and I have it a little bit under the full limit. But my engine is still bogging out and having trouble idling and starting back up from a "hot start" any ideas? Because I'm just considering buying a new engine since this one keeps giving me trouble.

The base gasket is notorious for leaking. I would check that first. Also sounds as though you may be lean with the hot start problem.

It was the valves as far as I know. I messed them up and had to order a new head and valve set. Just waiting for my battery to charge so I can test it to see if it runs. I'm still having oil problems though. A leak but not a big one. I'm going to try some gasket maker from my local autozone to see if this stops its.
And I had weird problem. So I drive a Retro, small little bugger, but with the BBK. It knows how to pick up speed. But during my fix. I had the source of the HUGE amounts of smoke and loss of speed. My muffler (TaoTao Stock) burned a hole in itself. So I figured, since I installed the BBK. My engine seems to be having a heating problem. Which is killing it and the base gasket. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I have the engine cover and fan installed. But its not keeping it cool.
EDIT**
I forgot to say which gasket maker I got. I brought Permatex Red, the high temperature one.

do you know what your compression ratio is? the bbk may have raised it enough to warrant using premium fuel 91+ octane. it will also burn cooler than regular.
