I have a 4 year old Linhai Passport 50. All of the sudden, it won't start. Broke the carb down and cleaned it twice. Replaced CDI, Ignition coil, fuel filter and automatic choke. Emptied fuel and put in fresh. After it sits for awhile, it will sort of start. It runs slow and rough then stops after a few seconds. Switch on right handle is turned on. I have had some issues with the rear brake switch, but once the handle is where it needs to be it turns over, so I don't think it's that. I would greatly appreciate any help. I've run out of thoughts at this point.....

Do a compression test. I would bet its very low.

Have you adjusted the valves?

I have not adjusted the valves because I'm not sure I'm capable. It's only got about 1300 miles on it. Could they need adjustment so soon? I haven't done a compression test, but when I took the plug out after I tried to start it, it seemed like it was pretty good from the air released. It also builds up pretty well when you try to kick start it.

Maybe the intake is cracked/leaking.

Thanks for the info. You're absolutely right. The step-by-step instructions make it look pretty easy. I'm going to give it a try this weekend. Thanks for all your help!

I tried adjusting the valves and it was a no go. When I first adjusted them, it ran a bit, but I could hear clicking and realized I was using too big a feeler gauge. Even with the .002, it would only run for less than a minute. If you tried to give it gas, it dies. The lower valve, which I think is the exhaust valve was a bit dirty, but I suspect that's normal because it's the exhaust valve. I beginning to wonder if it's the rear brake switch. It's becoming increasingly temperamental. When you get it in the right place, the engine turns, but just won't catch. Thanks for all your input.
