So after having 2 scooters stolen and one recovered but destroyed I embark on a quest to build a custom scooter using the VIN from my first scooter. I currently have 2 frames one from my first scoot and one from a parts scoot I bought. They are very different. The "small frame" is from a 2014 CY50B and the "big frame" is from an older Thunder I think. Thus far I've stripped both frames down and plan to cut off all the mounting brackets from both to weld back on later as needed. The big frame will be getting cut up for support bracing. Its striking just how different these frames are. Geometry is different, height, length and weight. 18lb,14oz to 23lb,11oz. The small frame uses the short coil over and is 2 inches shorter in the front and 2 inches shorter front to back. it is however 2 inches longer from the pivot point of the motor to the cross point from where the frame and fork intersect. Its all frame work for the next few weeks while I try to source parts. I'm looking for larger front tire and a power train in the 200+ cc range maybe. Once I have all the sorted and mocked it'll be metal work and fiber laying. The ultimate plan is to have a small scooter to drag race but still technically street legal....well maybe not technically but at least registered and with ORV sticker.

Just remember to take plenty of pictures so the rest of us can salivate over it.

If you do a stretch, please document it so we can see how you did it.

LoL!They do count CCs and when going to about 4x the size, that would make your scooter a motorcycle in the peoples republic of Maryland. The less attention I draw to my self the less chance of heavy fines and points on my license. There may be so law restricting 2strokes in the state of a certain size and/or year.

Cut the wings off the front then used a mapp torch and hammer to persuade them into shape and welded them to the tube frame. Lots of grinding left on all the tabs I cut off and some of the welds I laid down. In one spot I cut through the frame so built that back up so I can grind it back down to look smooth. I'm not really going for show bike quality metal work but I want it as nice as possible using a grinder and flap wheel. I wont be using any filler that isn't mig wire. Would have gotten more done but my dewalt 18v batteries are getting old and dont last long.Need to decide on new batteries or a 20v grinder to match most of my tools soon.

No pics but the large frame has been chopped up. Lots of good tabs and bolstering parts taken from it. Need to grind that down. Did some more grinding on my frame but again had to cut it short do to batteries running dry. Found a fix though. Dewalt makes an adapter to fit the new 20v batteries on the old 18v tools. So I basically just expanded my 20v line of tools to include another spot light, grinder and a 1/2 impact. Very happy.

Worked on the triple tree a bit today. Those, like the frame, are not the same even though they look close.I wanted to use the set from the parts scooter I bough because the shocks are about an inch longer. However thats not the only thing different. The yokes are shaped differently with one having a drop. The shafts are different too by about 1 1/4 inches. There is a shank below the treads. So I go to swap the forks and need to buy an allen in 10mm. But wouldn't you know that even the fork plugs need different sized allen keys. Oh well just another excuse to buy more tools. I mean I do have empty space in my tool box that needs to be filled.... The triple that is too long is now in the scrap pile in case I need to cut a section off and weld it to extend the top of the shorter one.

So the engine doesn't fit at all. I kinda expected that. Ended up cutting the kick stand bracket off. Still need to move the motor back so will probably stretch out the rear about 6 inches and relocate the shock mount.
