Pretty nice piece of ingenuity there for cleaning cases, rims, and about anything else for that matter. It would better then sand blasting since it doesn't pit the material like sand does and would be much easier to prep stuff for paint with that. I may have to get one of those put together before long.

Yep, I still cant believe you gave our secret up John  . We used this method to take this motor from this To this The trick is to give it that extra 'soak time' . Extra long and you get better parts. Thats how i got the lightweight ignition, loooong soak

Nevermind the flywheel Brent, we need to drop the whole motor in there.

Right on. I have that exact same sprayer, and some of that exact same tubing from Lowe's sitting around as well. Just need to pick up some baking soda. Going to give it a shot on a few pieces, I think. After seeing the video, and seeing Robert's cases, I'm sold on it.
Curios to see how well it does on stubborn gasket material.
Good find.

WOW! Very cool indeed. I like the simplicity of it. I suppose you could substitute sugar, salt or even fine silica sand as well but you would have to confine it. Cardboard box with a couple holes in the side and a piece of plexi on top would do it cheap and simple. great job on that engine 2strokd

This is basically how I ended up doing it. Made a hopper out of a plastic jug, put a barb in it, hung it up higher than everything else and hosed it to the gun. Only change from the picture is that I put the tub on the ground, and kept the hose taught with the gun upside down (just like our fuel in our lines: the soda didn't want to fight gravity). Didn't get very far. Had a quick downpour (lasted about 5 minutes, just long enough for me to clean everything up while getting rained on, and stopped when I was walking inside). The large orange bag is a 13lb bag of baking soda I got from BJ's (wholesale/bulk membership warehouse) for just over $6. The system really doesn't use all that much medium. Filled the hopper, went at it for over an hour, and still had over half the hopper full of soda. Maybe used 2-3 lbs. Had issues with moisture from my compressor (you can see it's pretty old) I have another, but it has an even smaller tank - not a good thing. I ended up just doing spurts in the end, not by choice, but because of clumping. Once that air gets wet, the soda gets wet, and it's useless and stubborn. I'm happy with the gravity hopper and the gun set up(put a barb at the end of hose for better concentration). Just wish the water wasn't an issue. Going to pick up a separator and possibly another tank to expand my volume and CFM(?) output - allowing me to spray at high pressure (only time it really works) for a longer period of time. Fun to experiment with, can't wait to get another crack at it with an even better set up.An afternoon off work well spent, IMO. Learned a lot, gained a little. It's a big mess, though. I was covered from head to toe with the baking soda. A quick rinse in the shower rinsed me of all the soda easily. I recommend goggles, and something for filtering over your mouth and nose. I did without these things today, but won't next time. (Wasn't painful, just annoying and bitter tasting). Thanks for sharing the idea! When it works (which it did, intermittently), it realllllly works!
