I'm starting to realize why this guy just gave me this scoot... Sometimes it takes time to fire, sometimes it fires right up. Most of the time it will turn over with electric start but never fire, I have to kick start it to get it to fire. Once it is idling, it's good. I can take off from the trailer park just fine, pull out on the main road with power and cruise up to speed like normal. Everything seems fine and out of nowhere the scoot will just cut off like someone hit the kill switch. Instantly pull over and neither the e-start or kickstart will fire it back up. Sit for a while and it will fire whenever it wants.
Last week I Made it 4 miles from home and it died. I tried starting it for 20 minutes before I decided to walk it home on the sidewalks. I could make it about a half mile, get it to start, so I creep on the sidewalk as to no obstruct traffic if it dies again, which it did. 3 more times. All at random.
This NEVER happens at speed. Only when going under 15mph. Normally when stopping. I got it to stall on my when creeping through the trailer park driveway once. I've had it started and idling on the center stand for a few minutes and it just hit the killswitch.
WHAT I'VE DONE:
Checked carb, intake, CDI, coil, plug, all brand new from the shop it was just in. This guy had it in the shop to fix the issue and they did a lot before they noticed the wire harness was all melted, and didn't wanna go any further so the owner gave it to me; and I fixed it by resplicing everything.
I swapped carbs and intakes and CDIs from my little Scootie and had the same results. Tested the stator that I thought was bad and it is testing ohms good.
I disconnected the charging three wires from the stator and only had the trigger and pulse hooked up, same results.
Made sure all grounds were in tact, and healthy.
Pulled the stator and cleaned it, had oil blown all over it (the big hose for the PAIR system was cut right at the head, blowing hot air and oil all over everything, which melted the wires). Stator clean, gap set to a thin credit card.
Removed old intake manifold gasket, cleaned face. No gasket installed, same results. Will run good, randomly stall.
I haven't checked the valves yet, or swapped coils. I also think it could be the built in alarm system could maybe be tripping and killing the motor.
Does anyone know how to safely remove the alarm system and still get the scoot to run right? I unplugged it, kick started it and then my key wouldn't kill the motor! My kill switch was unplugged for testing so it was stuck running. I had to re plug the alarm back in and the key worked.
I'm running out of ideas, so ANY help will be appreciated!
