Earlier today, (6/21/20/) I put the passenger back rest where I previously had a big GIVI top box on the rear grab rail "wing" on my 06 Honda Reflex scooter.(sold the top box to the guy that bought my Honda Silverwing 600 scooter) Then I rode my scooter to my daughter's place where a nice steak and potato dinner was prepared. DELISH!

Finally got around to restoring the yellow faded cloudy oxzidized headlights on my VW GTi. Best 2 hours and $30 I ever spent. Also cheaper than the $500-$700 price for a pair of new ones.
How they were before the treatment. The clear part at the top is how they're supposed to look.
Step 1: Used 1000 grit wet sandpaper horizontally. Step 2: Used 3000 grit wet sandpaper vertically. Step 3: Used plastic polish and buffed the hell outta them. Step 4: Used sealant for UV protection.
Last Step: Opened a beer and smiled.(no photos of the drinking and smiling.)

Taping it off is the hardest part. Looks nice. You'd think there'd be better technology these days. I don't remember old cars having this problem. Oh right, they were glass.

Next victim of New York State salt - one of the horns worked only about 50% of the time. Time for more decibels. I was going to try to clean up the broken one and run all four, but in the process of removing the terminal plug, the whole plug just broke off. So it decided for me, run three. Bought the Hella Supertones. I had all the wire, shrink wrap & tape for the job, but had to run out for a bunch of spades, couple extra bolts, and decided to get some penetrox as well. It took a lot longer than anticipated, but that's alright, nothing going on today. Took my time and tucked everything in as best I could.

I'm about to scrap this junk pile I've been trying to fix. 07 Jeep Liberty (KJ) 3.7L v6 - would barely hold an idle without stalling, but if i held the gas pedal, it'd maintain a really really really rough 2k rpm. Ran the codes - P0300 (multiple misfire) and P0175 (Rich). Started with the usual suspects. Coils and plugs (plugs gapped to 0.040). No change. Replaced the O2 sensors, first bank, started sounding a little smoother. Replaced the second bank which smoothed it out a bit more, but now it would die after 1-2 seconds of runtime. Checked the fuel pressure on the rail, 51psi on charge/prestart, 60psi during its 1-2 second run. Checked the fuel injectors (unplugged wires, flipped the rail over, 2 slightly leaked, but nearly all the orings were shot anyway) - replaced them. Smoother yet, but still would "killswitch" 2 seconds in. Replaced manifold air pressure sensor. No change... WITS END. I about damn give up... (Edit - adding more now 2 hours later) figured out how to reset the ecu, got it to stay running long enough for it to stall out as it "dechoked" the engine. ran it again for a bit on the throttle at roughly 1.5-2.2k rpm (still a lil rough) - and noticed the cyl 1 runner on the intake manifold is hot. like exhaust hot. so i got a shot intake valve. gonna have to do a valve job...

Today I bought my old Vauxhall Meriva back which I sold a few years ago. Lady who had it is looking for another as headgasket gone. It's got 4 new tyres and discs and pads. Will get mechanic do the work. Much easier for the wife to get in and out of as higher up than the Nissan. Even if needs another engine they be cheap enough. Car only cost £100 with long mot.

Finished off the vintage bicycle today and then towed car back to yard. Once ramp is clear of scooter it will go on there and slowly fit a new gasket set and cam chain kit which is £78 on eBay. No rush and if still knackered will get my money back flogging parts. No to price up the bicycle for customer.

Not really much wrenching, but I went to start the Altima so I could drive my father to an eye specialist an hour away yesterday morning. It just clicked. I got out and checked the cables and still no go. Tossed the batt in the truck and picked up a replacement while I was waiting for his long appointment. First, I didn't realize a pretty standard battery (Duralast Gold) is now $185. I was expecting more like $125... but this is the first car battery I've picked up since all of my friends got out of being auto parts counter guys, so no more discount.
Second, I was told that my core expired. Didn't know that was a thing. They took off $18 for a core charge, then put it back on when they saw that the Duralast Gold battery that I had was 6 years old (marked 4/15). Then I looked it up, and AutoZone says they will give you a gift card for bringing in an old battery. Doesn't make much sense to get nothing for a core if they'll at least give you a few bucks for any old battery.

The only expiration with a core is that you have 90 days to bring in a core. Then I asked how to go about getting the core charge since now I have no proof of bringing in a core and the rep disconnected from chat. I exited and did another chat request. Same rep. Said hi and then I said I was just talking to you about an "expired core" and they disconnected again. That's gone well.

Weird, did you flash some cash then they offered to dispose of the battery for you? Employee might've pocketed the core charge. Worked at Carquest for 2yrs, can't deny a core for age only damage.
