It looks plenty tall, but those spacers are also isolators. They reduce the heat transfer between the head and intake. Not sure how much practical difference they make.

I have only ever needed them for clearance issues. I suppose the heat transfer from the head to the intake could be an issue in hot weather. in winter though I would think it would make for harder starting.
when I ported a head on my scooter I took too much out of the exhaust side so velocity was way down, it hurt performance especially at the top end. I made that back with an offset woodruff key which advanced the ignition timing 3*. I still have another unadaulterated stock head that I plan on porting as well, but correcting the mistakes I made.
the difference I noticed after porting was more power overall with a crappier throttle response from a stop. however, it wont hit the upper most available rpm range on flat wind free ground. after I advanced the timing it gets closer but still cant quite hit the rev limiter on a flat. hoping once I installed the new head without a huge exaust port I will be able to keep the port velocity up and get back what I had plus some.
sorry if I am making no sense. I have had a bit to drink tonight
