I may have asked this before but I can't find the post.
I have a Tao Tao ATM50-A1 and I think instead of pushing the tiny 50cc motor to places it wasn't meant to go I'd rather just pop on a 150 and mildly modify that. I know some type of spacer needs to be installed on the rear wheel and I guess all the 150cc short motors have top motor mounts.
If anyone knows of a kit or has done it and would like to share the deets it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I think that kymco has 100cc+ engines with bottom engine mounts, but I am not sure that it is a bolt on swap, I have never tryed it, it will be dangerous for sure

I'll look at those. Dangerous in what way?

ooh. Thanks. I left a comment on that video and one by trevor pritchett asking for more deets. Hopefully I get a response and can make it work.

I was going to suggest trevor had done a swap, but with the caveat that 1)he had to weld mounting brackets to the frame, and you want things involving the rear wheel to STAY connected - is he qualified, are you? and 2)he cannot diagnose a non-starting 139qmb/GY6. Makes me question his mechanic creds. I think he's out on the west coast(near SanDiego, maybe, as I think he posted about going to/near the border) so he's within reasonable distance of Lalaland... I think that a 150cc in a 50cc short with 10" wheels is asking for trouble. If you really want that kind of performance, perhaps you should be investigating cycles instead of scooters. You'd have to learn to shift, but it is not difficult. Cycles seem to balance better than scoots, IMO, but I haven't been on a cycle for years. tom

This video is super misleading. Yes, you can just bolt a top mount GY6 to a bottom mount QMB frame (as they do in the video), but what they don't show here is the fitment of the exhaust, which in this kind of application... doesn't work. You end up with all kinds of ground clearance issues, which in turn creates safety issues. We've done this, we know. The standard GY6 exhaust header is left with negligible ground clearance and will lever the rear wheel off the ground in a turn. Unless you locate or fab a mount that will properly allow for a top mount GY6 to fit a bottom mount QMB frame, this isn't a great idea. Matt

GY6 50 versus 150 engine mount comparison images . . .

Not sure where to start. Ill just try to answer everything. I am not qualified. I would have to have someone else weld the mounts. I saw these already made mounts. www.monstergy6.com/product316.htmlI got some replies from the guy in that YT vid and he says with a long 150 you can put 13 inch rim tire combos on it which would be excellent because these tiny wheels... ugh I'm not looking for crazy top speed but would like more torque and 0-50 where it pulls hard all the way without taxing the tiny 83cc. I've had street bikes, enduros and 2t MXers so I'm good with shifting but currently I need something that is labeled a 50 on the vin and can pass as a 'moped'.

Bro, you're still struggling with your scoot, and finding power? I finally dialed in the stroker build after popping a 24mm CVK on there, but had to up jet 115/46. I still feel like it's a TAD lean, so I'm gonna do a wideband soon.
I feel like if you did that 50mm bbk of yours, with the A9 timed correctly, a nice variator like Koso, Polini or Naraku, Bando belt and uni filter / free flow exhaust you should be fine man.
I do feel like I lost a few MPH on the top end with the Polini variator, but I have constant pull up to 45ish, 52ish if I'm tucked.
Wish you were local so we could have some test n tune days!

That would be cool.
The A9 is now timed correctly and I think I have a free flow exhaust.
It is running well finally. I just wanted more. XD
I thought about the stroker a lot and at some points had the parts in the cart. Then it seemed to make more sense to just get a bigger motor. To build the stroker nice with good parts it is totaling close to $900 but a complete long or short 150 new is under $350 then say even another $100 for the mounts cause I can't fab. Then buy a carb...
With a 150 on there I could slap a bbk on that and a unifilter and leave the quiet stock exhaust. But yeah, I am just exploring options for what to do to it when winter comes.

Yeah, the cost to power ratio is whack. A 150 would definitely yield more power. Just not as easy to plug-and-play...

I don't know what I was thinking about those monstergy6.com mounts. Those are clearly for ruckus.I guess the plan is to find a 150 frame and cut the mounts off that then weld them to the top of the tao tao frame. Duh on me.

I can't find a 150cc frame or even a junked one anywhere online. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places. Has anyone reading this done the conversion?
I've seen a bunch of you-tube vids on this and I imagine, due to lack of details, for those who weld and wrench it's not a big deal.

There are engines gy6 150cc that are bolt on with mounts under the engine, I think that kymco has engines with that mounts, but I wouldnt recommend you do this, I am sure that the frame will hold good but it is scary to drive heavily modified gy6 50 that reaches 50mph,now imagine 150 engine on it... you wouldnt be doing this mod if you are not planing to go fast, and going fast on that thing is a death wish, accident waiting to happen... Stay safe!
