Basic, but next time it happens, remove the gas cap, put it back on, and see what happens. Vacuum forming in gas tank? I will try that

It could possibly be a CDI starting to fail. When it gets hot its stressed and causes issues. By the time you go to test it its cool enough to not be a problem until it out right fails. Just my guess.

Just my guess. It could be, however my previous experience is that in most cases cdi either work or not,I didnt know that it can be something in between

Vespa LX 50’s have a known CDI issue that does just that. My neighbor had it and a new one fixed it. The symptoms are the same. It’s possible there are others. I’m just putting it out as a possibility because every other possibility has been fixed.

If you were to adjust the valves when they were warmer than 'stone cold' or overnight cold, the result would be that the clearance would be a bit larger than if they were to be adjusted cold.
The cold valve clearance should be less when things warm up, thus decreasing clearance more when hot.
The hot valve clearance, when adjusted hot, will be what it is when hot... DUh. OTOH, the 'hot adjusted' valve clearance will be larger when cold than the 'cold adjusted' clearance, as the valve train will tend to shrink a bit as it cools. Start with .002" hot... chill the bits ... clearance generally will be larger. Start with .002" cold.. it will be .002" cold, and likely less than .002" hot. K? tom

So I dont think this has been mentioned but I just fixed this problem on a customers scoot today. First, do you have access to a smoke machine for checking vacume leaks?(if you have a smoke macine im sure you know what to do) If not you can use carb cleaner, brake cleaner or ether based starting fluid buta little dangerous. Once you have one or the other take your storage bin and seat off so you have access to the intake manifold. Now while the scooter is on the center stand start it and let it warm up, once warmed up, shoot one of the listed flamable chemicals around the intake manifold base, where it connects to the carb and around all vacume hoses. When you do this your engine will either run the same,(meaning its more than likly not a vacume leak) or it will rev higher on its own or bog and stall, now if the scoot does either of those last two things you have a vacume leak. On my customers gy6 150 scoot today I did this with a smoke macine and found the intake manifold spacer/isolater was cracked and gasket leaking causing a sever vacume leak that got worse as it got warm. Hope this helps, I have had multiple gy6 scoots 50 and 150 scoots with this problem.

While we're on the subject does any one know of a quality aftermarket manifold/spacer/gasket with 1 or 0 inlets for stock 50cc head?

While we're on the subject does any one know of a quality aftermarket manifold/spacer/gasket with 1 or 0 inlets for stock 50cc head? Exactly what I'm looking for. Found plenty for 150's but the don't fit the stock 50cc carbs.

I've seen some others Amazon but I wasn't sure if they were good.
The last time I ordered a manifold/spacer/gasket kit, the gasket and manifold fit fine but the spacer was way off.

Ok glad I helped so far I think lol. Anyway when you get your new isolater\spacer it will probably need to be filed down a little on the valve cover side as it might make slight contact with the head where it is angled up to valve cover and cause it to leak still.
