update: the strangest thing.. when i put a brand new carberator on today, with a 85 jet, the oil leak has seemed to stop leaking into the air filter..? hmmm i wonder why that was? i had to leave my hose going from intake to petcock otherwise it would cut off fuel i think.. but the oil leak has almost just completely stopped..hmmm

As scooterpimp says scootx , the vacuum line sucks on the diaphragm in the petcock which then allows petrol to flow through. Turn off engine and it stops sucking air from the manifold and shuts off the petrol. If you haven't already look through the tech side of the forum and may find stuff there to help. Also on youtube subscribe to 90GTVert has a wealth of how to on these engines. You will find some of his videos here to.

hmm it indeed just doesn't sound healthy and well any leaks should be pretty easy to solve. it may take some work tho. aslong as not all the bolts are stripped its pretty easy.

Not as easy as it looks online A? lol Retap that hole in the head use one size bigger , move that hose from the valvecover vent under that seat mount ! Did you over fill the oil ? 24 oz or say 725 mil no more then try it and see if it leaks or fill the air box ... Your here for answers you will get them ...

The little black hose provides vacuum from the intake to open the fuel petcock. If you remove it, it will allow too much air into the engine that has not gone through the carburetor to get some fuel added. It should cause lean running and likely stalling if removed and the port left open. The valves are possibly too loose, with more than .004" clearance. check again, with the cam timed so the two small holes align with the top of the head(where the rocker cover gasket touches), and the larger hole is at the top. The vacuum petcock valve is supposed to stop fuel flow into the carburetor when the engine is not running, and there is no vacuum in the black intake port. It opens the valve when the engine starts to allow fuel to flow into the float bowl. You can drill the stripped hole to the next larger size, and tap new threads for a new, larger diameter bolt. Lots cheaper than a new engine. You could also use a 'thread insert' to replace the threads that are stripped and use the factory original size bolt. tom
