Welp, good news and bad news. Good news: I buttoned it all back up - intake back on and I also better seated the spark plug wire on the plug. I sprayed in some quick start and it started after a few kicks. How great is that?
Bad news: #1, I'm an idiot. I wish I could have got it started on my own without bothering you good people. #2 - there's probably a few things still wrong here.
- The tach is messed up so I'll try re-wrapping that wire around the plug wire.
- I'll run it around a bit and see about the temps. If it's running hot, it's probably due to an oil issue, right?
- I'll do some searches and try to figure out how to tell if it's getting the proper oil. I think the jet is good, based on the plug. I think the A/F screw is good based on the way it runs well, and again, plug (?). It seems to be using oil, since the oil tank was full and no longer is full.
- I need to figure out why it konked out. Maybe air in the oil line. I'll look into that, bleeding, etc. I can run it around the neighborhood a bunch and see if I can get it to die again.
Sorry for the false alarm and appreciate all the advice. It's all still valid, as I should probably buy those tools, and I need to continue to get up to speed on all this 2t stuff
Thx!!

one note on the plug wire, it is hard to get seated and that's probably why it didn't start when back here are home. But - it doesn't explain why it konked out in the first palce and wouldn't start when it cooled down. I only replaced the plug after all that, so it can't explain the way it just stopped while I was driving along, unless it got unseated on its own - which is possible - however, I didn't go over any bumps... One thing I could do would be to take apart the fan shrowd and spend some time with the dremel. I never did any mods to it and the fit is pretty tight, with the temp gauge wire. I could also pull out the torque wrench and make sure the plug is properly torqued. Not sure how that could all cause the temp to read high.
last note, I'm going to make a small donation here to 'the forum' based on all the help.
