Someone back on TR used to shave off the fins for some dough. Forget who that was.

Maybe PC the exposed side. PC? Powder coat. That raw color has to go!

Powder coat. That raw color has to go! Ahhh, I see! Thanks for the clarification. I'd leave it raw, or maybe anodized. Powder coating would insulate the aluminum and I think you'd lose some of the effectiveness of the heat sink. Matt

Couple more questions to wrap up a decision: - The drive face is not included in the Polini link that you provided (though it does come with a new clutch spring). Does that mean stock drive face is fine, or is there a drive face that couples better with the Polini? - DR variator is built to use DR sliders, that's a no-brainer. Would you suggest running DR sliders with the Polini, or regular rollers?

The drive face angle of the Polini variator matches up to the stock drive face plate. The Dr. Pulley one is ever so slightly different. You can totally run sliding weights in any variator, and many of us do. I highly recommend them for almost any application. Matt

Matt fugaziiv, I got the Polini variator installed today, and forgot to measure the roller size. Are they 19x17s? I'm not 100% sure after searching the web. The stock GY6 is 18x14, so I certainly can't use my new set of sliders, which are probably way to heavy anyway. The new Polinis are 9.7g, I had 14g on the old variator. Also, what are the chances I'll need a shorter belt? Currently got a 842-20-30 installed. It's supposed to get near 40F tomorrow. With any luck, the rain will hold off long enough for me to do some tuning.

I'd install the stock weights, and then start tuning from there. If you're happy with the variator and the provided weights, then you're good to go for a bit. As far as belts, did your engine come stock with the 842, or was that installed after? Normally a long case GY6 runs the 835, and unless your engine calls for the longer belt I'd recommend the shorter. Matt
