Looks like my old CF Moto e-charm. Liquid cooled gy6 motor. Pretty strong motor decent ride especially over rough roads with the 16" wheels.

Yeah, the size and ergonomics would be great and probably a pleasure to ride. So they're gy6 style? Parts should be fairly easy to come by? Anyone have any experience with them first or second hand?

As I'm doing more and more digging, it looks like Benelli sold to a Chinese company is 2012 and now they're kind of "just another Chinese bike," but supposedly on the higher end of quality for them.
I'm asking because I have a chance to get a 2018 with 15 (fifteen) miles on the odometer and the manufacturers certificate (brand new as far as state is concerned) for $1,200. Price tag new looks to be around $2,400, but I'd be getting this for my girlfriend and reliability is the main concern, so I'd probably rather avoid Chinese stuff unless this is some kind of exception where they're still manufactured in Italy and just owned by China or something.

Pretty certain China bought the Benelli name and stuck it on their China mfg bikes..Suzuki and Yamaha make machines in that size that are top quality...

Shitty, I was super excited. Looking around online I saw a couple examples of used bikes with 20,000-30,000 miles for sale, but they were pre 2012 and that’s when China bought them out.

Benelli only made large capacity motorcycles till they were brought out by the Chinese. So anything else is likely of Chinese origin. The build quality is said to be better than most.

The GY6 scoots with a big wheel are usually a GY6-B that uses a little bit different parts. They're out there, but don't just order any parts that say GY6 for that. A friend bought one years ago and brought it over along with a whole pile of GY6 performance parts and basically nothing worked with it. The stud spacing is different and the CVT is different. I think the pod filter was about all that worked from his GY6 aftermarket shopping spree.

Well thanks for the info gentleman. I was all over this thing with the tiny bit of research I’d had time to do when I created this thread, but as I’ve kept digging and have heard more and more of you chime in... not the deal of a lifetime. Bummer.

Sucks because I guess the way this guy acquired this was because he works for Roush Industries and Roush had a contract with the EPA to bring scooters in and test for emissions to make sure that these other companies weren't doing what VW did. Long story to medium length, he was offered the option to purchase it because he is one of the managers of this specific facility. When I talked to him on the phone, we found we had a common friend (Jack Roush) and he got all excited and said he would give it to me for what the manufacturer made him pay, which is only $1,200 (they're cost) and he has it listed for $1,500. But the scoot only has 15 miles on it and come with a manufacturers certificate, as if it is brand new, so on paper it seemed like an amazing deal when I thought it was Italian.

Went and took a look at it and took it for a spin. Aside from the fuel that came spewing out of a fuel line from a hose clamp not being tightened down at the factory (go figure) it was a very nice bike. The 16" wheels, large seat, storage, other amenities, and amazing amount of torque power compared to my 50cc's was amazing and the girlfriend fell in love. The owner definitely doesn't know scoots so I had to inform him of what it means for a scoot to be made in China and it was well illustrated by the fuel that came flying out of the fuel line when we went to start it haha. I'd love to get this for my girlfriend so she can feel comfortable going on longer trips and such, but the Chinese quality has me worried and I would be wanting to keep it stock for reliability, however that may be the problem with it being of lesser quality than other companies.

90GTVert Seems this motor is the 158mj-a variant of GY6. Not sure if that is the same as GY6-B, but parts definitely do not seem any more available. Can’t find a single part anywhere. Some of the 157mj stuff may fit because it seems like they took that air cooled and carbureted motor and made it liquid and efi, then added one (157+1=158) and made it the “A” variant of the 158mj. Presumably, the “A” means liquid cooled lol? It’s all convoluted and doesn’t seem like it makes for easily replaceable parts. Bummer. If it seems to good one true, it always is. Damnit.

My 2 copper clads is that if they are importing them, and selling at or close to full retail, and there is a dealer within reasonable distance... not a bad buy. You should have some sort of warranty for a 'new' machine, and can wring it out pretty much in 30-60 days to know if it is going to be 'one of those'. If it works, likely you found all the 'infant mortality' items that would make it fail. If you figure cost-per-month of use, use it for a year, and it's a hundred each. Not too bad compared to payments on a significantly more expensive machine(2X as I figure for something similar). YMMV tom

Makes perfect sense and is financially practical, most likely, but I'm not even sure I have the time for a proper PDI inspection on it before my classes start up again on the 29th. Just comes down to not enough hours in the day really. I decided to pass on it, but it's definitely a great deal for the right person.

Brent is dead on here. While it is a GY6 based engine, the "B" variation used in any bike with a 16" wheel (air or liquid cooled) has some specific parts requirements that negates the easy part interchangeability of the standard GY6 long and shortcase engines. I'm not going to say it's a bad buy, but if even I don't have many of the parts for it, who does? Anyway, here's a few of the replacement parts that I have. These engines are relatively rare in the US on the grand scheme, so it's not easy for us to import all of the parts to support them due to high MOQs out of China. www.partsforscooters.com/search-results?search=gy6-bMatt PS: To make matters more confusing, the wide spaced blocks that people use to make 180cc+ GY6 engines are also called "B" case engines. They are not the same thing.
