I have a 2021 Cabo 50cc with just over 4k miles on it. Lately it loses rpm when going up a hill, drops from 8500 to around 6000 or so losing speed as well. I am thinking it may be a slipping belt. How often do you need to check the belt and are there any preferences as to the manufacturer?

In the service manual it should give you a wear limit size. It's usually around 1mm from a new belt. My Yamaha says about 6,000 miles for a belt. But that's probably a better quality belt. Your rollers could also be getting flat spots. So not shifting correctly.

Any recommendations as to a manufacturer. I could always go with the OEM but would rather have something that lasts longer

Think it's a Mitsubishi on there now, haves to see for sure. That's what I've found online anyway. Mitsubishi is a decent manufacturer so that may be the way to go

If the belt was slipping enough to cause these problems, I'd expect RPM to increase rather than decrease. I'd go over the whole CVT at this point. youtu.be/2EjW-iSP-Q8

Still no change after replacing the belt. Got another 4 mph top end but still having the rpm issue. Everything in CVT looked alright, cleaned up everything and put a new Narako belt. Called a mechanic in the area but being as it my only form of transportation and they say they need to actually look at it.... I'm still in the same situation, if anyone has any other suggestions I'm willing to listen. Saw a video about adjust the valves, may give that a go. Had to order tools. Not really mechanically inclined but have found a mechanic nearby to work on it. Thanks in advance

Did you check the condition of the rollers when you put the new belt on?

Not with a set of calipers, just cleaned them up and reinstalled. Seemed to have no flat edges, may just replace them and see what happens. It's just puzzling because it doesn't happen all the time. Still waiting for the tools to do a valve job and will keep you updated

Seems that the fuel valve has been the problem all the time. Been searching for one online but its B/O on the only place I've found it. Any recommendations appreciated

You can always 'modify' the vacuum operated valves so they are open all the time. Adding in a mechanically operated cutoff valve downstream would give you control when parked, and running. You would have to remember to turn on/off as needed. Did you regularly achieve 8500 rpms in the past when climbing that particular hill? ... and then have it start to top out at 6000?? First thought was that of course the rpms dropped when climbing as the engine is doing more work, and only has so much available power. So, if it historically performed better, then something is lacking, duh. Hope the petcock replacement does the job. tom

Had the fuel valve come in and installed it. Started up no problem and idled fine. The moped is about 7 months old and I've had some problems with it, mostly electrical though. I will consider putting a mechanical pump or possibly a pair of petcocks, one I can reach to shut off. Thanks for your help guys
