Greetings & happy holidays to all. So today after picking up my bike from a 70cc bbk upgrade I realized my brake lights stay on even when I'm not squeezing the lever. The bikes been off the road for months, finally got her back & she's runnin like a beast. Can it be a bad bulb?? Both my front blinkers stopped working but i doubt that has anything to do w it. Any input is greatly appreciated, Thanks guys.....

And those switches, on a scooter regularly left out in the elements, should be considered "regular maintenance items".
Cheap ones @ Scrappydog, a bit more expensive at a Honda dealer (but a lot better quality).
Sometimes, in a repairing frenzy, someone will go around the starter safety interlock (where the brake has to be applied before the electric starter will turn). This is accomplished by feeding +12V to the starter solenoid (from the battery) without cutting the existing wire (your starter button supplies -12V to the solenoid). If this has been done, the +12V, back feeds the brake light.

If you wanna be sure if it's the switch you can probe both leads with a mulitmeter. It should show that the circuit is closed/complete with the button pressed (lever pulled as if hitting the brakes). With the lever at rest / the button not depressed it should show no continuity between the two. Another issue could be a sticky lever. I've got one that likes to stick just enough that the brakes aren't engaged at all, but it makes contact with the switch so the brake light comes on if I don't think to check it.

The dealer who sold me the bike had told me that story about SYM, pretty much left me out in the dark. Maybe he just didn't want to help me out or doesn't know what's going on....

To check the switches, un-plug one and see if the light goes off. If it stays on, un-plug the other one. Sometimes the back brake cable stretches out making for less return pressure on the rear brake lever which in turn doesn't push the switch plunger in all the way so the light stays on. (if you have rear drum brake) There is a cable slack adjuster on the rear of the scooter.

update: swapped both sensors by the brake levers and the problem still exist. Not sure where else to look, my next step is to look under the bike into that starter solinoid that was mentioned. could there be a relay thats bad somewhere, anything else? hmmmm

If you disconnect both switches at the same time and the brake light stays on, then you have a short between two wires that should not be touching each other somewhere along the line. You have to strip off the body and go at it with a test lamp.

1) I would check for someone fooling with the wires @ the starter solenoid. (should be an easy look-see..... you are looking for a wire jumper placed between a solenoid stud and a solenoid wire) 2) I had one here, where the tail light pigtail was shoved in 180 degrees out, causing the brake light to light, instead of the running light. (don't ask me, the scooter came from a moron who let his friends fix it, all parties concerned having the mechanical aptitude of a gnat)
