I need to know what the next step is. Here is what I have: Athena 70cc BBK Racing CDI (waste of money, but for 18 bucks I couldn't resist) Pipe (Technigas) Racing filter Carbon Fiber Reeds Weights
Top speed 54mph
Where should I put my money next. Cvt? Carb? Still would like more mid range power.
Any tips? -C

Ide go with a better CVT so you can get your current and more power to the ground right. OEM cvt,s arent "bad" per-say, they just limit the heck out of performance.

I'd also go with CVT upgrades next. I'm a fan of the Malossi variator knockoffs like the Hoca from Parts For Scooters . About $50 and improves acceleration and speed in my experience. You'll need to tune it most likely, so don't expect the rollers that come with it to be just right for you. I'd buy a tuning kit of 16x13 rollers or just pick up a few sets. If you haven't done clutch springs yet, you might wanna get a set to install while you're in there.

I have an extra set of red clutch springs. I'll put them in this weekend. I will also buy a new cvt. Done and done will report back with the results.
Thanks guys, -C

Two things. 1st. Tested the CDI. It sucks. The stock one is much better out of the pocket. Haven't tested the top end but I'll let y'all know. Second I had to show a pic. Attachments:

i personlay would go with a carb the athean kite realy needs at least a 17.5mm carb if not a 19mm carb they wear out real fast if they dont have a larger carb
where did you set your squish at when you built it (or what base gasket did you use)

With respect to the gaskets. I'm not sure which base gasket I used. I got the squish to 0.90mm. (rec amt from instructions). I did not use a head gasket. With the thinnest one I could not get the recommended squish. I used high temp gasket maker. ( just a touch) -C

Got the cvt in today. I only had time to run it down the street but it seems like a big improvement. The power band problems are fixed. Gonna run it tonight.

Ok so new CVT is amazing. I also put on a new coil and Dr Pully 5g weights. I feel like I lost some top end. I havent had a chance to check it but I think I'm down to 50mph.
I'll work on the CVT some more this weekend and put in the clutch springs. I guess the next thing would be a carb -C
