Hello, I just got E-Ton beamer for Free. It has been sitting for a year or so not running. It needs some parts like brake lever, battery and Back lights. I flushed the lines from old gas and will fire it up soon. My question is I would like to buy bigger motor for it and ride it to work. I want to go more than 60mph. What motor would you guys recommend and what exhaust system? If you would be kind please post some links to sites with deals  I had Piaggio back in day in Europe and I loved that thing. Please let me what you guys find out. Thank you. |

 Are you hoping to get 60+MPH max speed or expecting to cruise that fast? If you expect to cruise that fast reliably, I'd suggest looking into a larger scooter. It can be done with the 50-90cc 2T base, but I don't think I'd choose that kind of build as a work commuter. If you just want to be able to stretch it's legs and hit over 60 at times, that's a little easier to do. I moved this post from my Project 90 thread, so I know you've seen that. If you haven't read through it, you should. To me a great quick daily rider setup that should be reliable would be : 90cc Minarelli/Jog engine 21mm DellOrto carburetor Phongeer exhaust (the street style, not the true expansion chamber pipe) Hoca variator The 90cc is a pretty capable version of the Jog engine to begin with. The Phongeer pipe adds more power in a very wide powerband and it's quiet and the look doesn't draw attention. The variator improves acceleration and speed. The carb keeps the engine cooler . There are details on ever one of those mods in the P90 thread. If you are comfortable with port work to the cylinder and adjusting squish clearance/compression, those can make a big difference too. Again, details in the P90 thread. Parts For Scooters carries the 90cc engines and a lot of parts for them. VT Cycles sells Phongeer exhausts, but I had to email them about it as it wasn't listed on their site when I ordered mine. ScrappyDog also carries the 90cc engines, though I think they're out of some now. They may have other parts you need. Quite a few places sell DellOrto carbs. Treatland is one of my favorite spots though, because they have good prices, ship quick, and sell a lot of tuning bits for the carb (jets, needles, adapters, etc...). |

I will look in to the proper engine set up. I just started it and it idles good but when I pull the throttle it starts bogging down and dies.
Any pointers?
I race R/C cars I kinda understand Low/High/Idle Screw adjustment, but I need to find out which one is which on the scooter.
Maybe its the line thats clogged up somewhere?

I got this thing for FREE! so I just wanted to see if I can comfortably go 60Mph on the side roads and not worrying about slowing down the traffic. |

I'd suggest a thorough carburetor cleaning. Details here.... 49ccscoot.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=carb&action=display&thread=363You don't have a high and low speed adjustment on these. You have idle speed and idle mixture adjustments (which is which shown in the link above). Start out with the carb cleaning and you may not need to mess with much else. If you need to go 60MPH to keep up with traffic, I'd consider getting this one running well and selling it. Then use the profit toward a larger scoot or bike, 250cc or above. Check your local laws too. It may not be legal to ride that fast on a 50cc scoot in your area. |

I had the scooter running yesterday and the way it ran, almost good is with the chock ON.(manual Chock) So I had to hold it in full open position to ride it around.
What does that indicate?

If you have to choke it for best results, it's not getting enough fuel. That could be something clogged in the carb as I suggested earlier. Could be a fuel filter clogging up. Could be a problem with the petcock. Could be improper jetting in the carburetor. Again, thorough carb cleaning would be the first step if you haven't done it and it never hurts to change the fuel filter when something has been sitting a while.
For the power pack, you can get that same thing cheaper. PFS has it (part number 169-210) for $499. They frequently run 10% off codes, so that's a pretty decent price cut... not to mention if you use that link or the banner they'll give me a small percent referral commission. ;D
I believe that should fit the Beamer. AFAIK they're all 10mm wrist pin with the smaller variator as well. Honestly I'd buy a 90cc before I got that. That will probably go faster top speed than the 90cc, but the 90cc has more potential if you decide to mod it later. It will have more torque. It will operate at lower RPM, which could be good for something ridden a lot. It doesn't have to be loud (not sure how loud that Hoca pipe is) or flashy to perform. Then again, I'm a huge fan of the 90cc motors so I'm biased. There's nothign wrong with a good running 70cc.
Another note for any future plans, if you have difficulty figuring out the stock carb, the aftermarket stuff (like the DellOrto I mentioned or the one in the Hoca kit) tends to be a little more difficult to get in tune. When you deal with these little engines, or any engine really, there tends to a sacrifice in one way or another involved in making more power.

Every Eton Beamer I've ever messed with is a 10mm pin and small variator. Actually the motor in my drag scoot is out of an Eton Beamer 3.
