I can't say I'd heard of Propel scooters before, so I Googled them and watched some vids and looked at some pics. I did see some claims of them being made by Propel out of Green Bay, WI. From what I saw on Google and YouTube they appear to be Chinese scooters with Propel stickers. As I understand it Chinese scooters can be bought from a few major manufacturers (with Chinese names you've never heard of). Dealers or importers that buy enough can have them branded how they choose. I don't know the numbers, but just as an example say I wanted 500 scooters. I could call them "American Pride Scooters". They'd be made in China and shipped to me where all I'd do is uncrate them and bolt on the front wheel and mirrors... but they'd be "American Pride Scooters". We like to buy American made stuff, so it pays to word things in ways that makes them sound like they're Made in the good old US of A.
Now, I know and care little about dealer and importer issues and how it works in detail. That's just my very basic understanding of it. I also know nothing about Propel. That's just my guess from what I've seen. I would not buy one expecting anything but a Chinese scooter.

Sam ol' Chinese scooters that have been around for years. Maybe some cosmetic changes but there isn't anything special about their product line. As for their integrity, I can't say. I know that I personally would never buy a scooter on-line. I have to see and touch it and hear it run before I lay any money down. The fact that there is no address listed (it just says) "Near Green Bay" on their site is enough for me to decide to go shopping elsewhere. Some of these guys will claim they have a warranty program and parts and all that stuff and then give you the run around when you contact them with a claim. Not saying they will but why take a chance?

90GTVert is right....I am a mechanic for a scooter rental shop on the beach of South Haven (Lake Michigan) We rent..sell and repair scoots. My boss..the owner took me to the trade show with him...one booth had some sharp scoots but with cheesy names and decals. I asked if he could change that..he said yes...please say what you wish for on scooter <---Chinese accent.... I said..well my boss here..his name is Jerry...can you send some over with the name "JERRYS JAMMER" on it...I chuckled but he was serious and said yes...how many you will wish to purchase?... I was astounded...ONE company can produce identical scoots...with ANY brand or name you wish on it... Bright side is...that is why nearly any part from any 50cc scoot will fit brand X scoot..

Even the "big name" parts suppliers do this.

To me, one Chinese scooter is much the same as the other, what you see is what you get.
True: there are different ranges of quality in goods you can purchase from China, and I would assume the overall quality of what you purchase is going to be price related, but unless you can compare the quality in person I would also assume the folks importing from China are buying as cheap as they can and are marking up to what the market will support. (unless, of course, they have a "brand name" to protect)
Bottom line: buyer beware
Now, if you feel you can do without the dealer support (and the cost of that dealer support) of a Honda, or Yamaha (I will not place Suzuki in this list), and are, yourself, "handy", then there is money to be saved by buying Chinese.
I own both a Yamaha, and a "Benzhou", imported by a company that has since gone bust. Both are ok, the Yamaha is of higher build quality (but originally cost double of the Chinese bike). Both are quite "rideable", and get the job done.
